Ugh. Dark themes. Can't get used to them. Fine for general terminal use, but impossible for me for larger amounts of text. Can't really articulate why , but it's uncomfortable for me.

From what I understand, it can sequester carbon because its roots run pretty deep. But then what? Won't the soil become saturated with carbon? Or isn't that an issue?

Here's the thing. Environmentalists have been warning about climate change for generations now. Calling for replacements for fossil fuel and for drastic cuts in emmissions and consumption. Basically nobody acted. And now the situation

Not to mention tea pots and cups. There's an almost endless variety of materials, shapes, sizes, glazes, finishes, decorations etc. My personal favourite tea pot is a traditional chinese blue clay pot. And a potter friend made me a set

Some people would probably claim the latter. The blue pee was temporary, and mildly disappointing from what I remember. But I'm assuming it's reasonably safe if it's included in chemistry sets...then again, mine also had merc

I'm pretty confident my 'home chemistry set' included something by that name back in the late 80s. One of the experiments I remember is drinking some of it in order to render my pee blue.

I wish more people would feel unsafe when flying and stop doing it as often. Might help put a dent in climate change.

You know this, and you've apparently experienced this several times. So maybe stop wearing boots when flying? I always carry a pocket knife, but not when flying. Not just because I want to avoid anal probing, but also out of courtesy t

Yes, the F16s are able to drop nukes. There are several F16s permanently on stand-by in the Belgian air force base where US nukes are stored.

Any book that features a tommy gun toting tomcat is worth a read, regardless of whether life got you down. It's one of my favourite books, and it's one that can reread multiple times, each time revealing new insights and reference

Ambient levels of UV can damage your skin (think sunburns and skin cancer). There is no reason to assume it wouldn't damage your eyes. So wear sunglasses. Off on a tangent: I always wear sunglasses outside. I don't deal well with

Not many countries are capable of building their own fighter jets. Many use hand-me-downs from the US or Russia. Some more 'favoured' partners can buy them outright, but terms & conditions apply... There are rumours about US i

These are not difficult political questions. The US through NATO are forcing Belgium to buy F35s, and that'll be that. Out of all the jets allegedly in the running, only F35s can be used to drop US nukes. The very same US nukes which h

Many people don't get this, but calories aren't a very reliable measure of available energy. Measuring the caloric content of food is a pretty weird process, and is some kind of "one size fits all" measure of energy whic

Exactly. Your body is very good at storing energy (fat). It's also pretty good at burning fat while running, especially at the slower pace that is typical of long distance running. You can eat a couple of thousand kcal in one sitting,

Mine draw around 10W idle, about 15W when active. My Linksys and TP-Link trinkets draw under 2W idle (which I'm guessing is my power meter's minimum value), and not much more when active.

So ... which SoHo router manufacturer can we actually trust? It seems pretty common in this industry to either not supply security updates, or to only supply them for a very short amount of time.
