Nice, thanks. Looks pretty reasonable, but I'd really have to learn some zig myself to be fully comfortable using it, I think.

I haven't, but I might have to do a lot of work to get it working, as my typical use of Lua is deeply embedded and customized, and doesn't allow any filesystem access. I will definitely look into that, though, thank you. The only

Pretty interesting. I'm a professional user of Lua, and while I love it, I really get frustrated at a lot of aspects of it, especially how loose the typing is. I've long wished there were more strongly typed alternatives, but just

Same here, except Lovecraft deities. My domain is rlyeh, and my hostnames at the moment are yog-sothoth, azathoth, and nyarlathotep. cthulhu, dygra, and yidhra are retired hosts.

I trust the maintainers of my distro software repositories. Any non-distro software, I want to audit before I install or it should be sandboxed. And yes. The recommendation is to not just download and run programs you find on the web.

I used to do that, until I had to go through my history to find a specific commit that I couldn't just diff for. It's like good comments in software. Half the time, you're doing it for your future self.

It's not that it's a controversial political view, it's that it's really not relevant to this discussion.

They should have just called them riots, then. "I remember hearing that in certain protests a couple years ago" or "I remember hearing that in certain riots a couple years ago" would both work. The wording as-is is pro

AI is not human. Machine learning isn't the exact same thing as human learning. Treating them as exactly the same is disingenuous.

I don't want anybody to feed any of my work into a model at all without following all the terms of the licenses of my work. If my work is used to generate, via a computer program, a derived output, then you need to follow my licenses.

I think this is the better question, given that the current major use of AI is to launder copyright away from the work of mostly independent artists.

The Book Eaters by Sunyi Dean is a really good modern fantasy about families of monsters (based mostly on vampires) that eat books. Probably my favorite book of the year.

I used hjkl scrolling for about a decade with Dvorak. In fact, I learned to use Vim for the first time on Dvorak. The muscle memory makes it work just fine, even when not all the keys are on the home row.
