I suspect you are being facetious, but I've for a long time thought that this was actually an okay idea, even for systems less screwed up than PHP. When I need to write a function with lots of complex interactions, I mash the keyboard

That's cool I guess, but this article is more about setting up a load balancer than it is about HHVM. I was hoping for some juicy bit about it completely hosing up on some obscure PHP function.

I use a Git-tracked text file to-do list for both. I also shove random notes into it. It's a pretty effective system, and it never becomes obsoleted or loses my data.

You use zero and one-based counting for different things. Mixing them up is where fencepost errors come from. Say you're counting the length of a fence, so you are numbering the posts. Of course it's preferable to number the pos

I've had the misfortune of being forced to use Laravel on a project, and the larval connotations are pretty apt. Basically it's yet another PHP framework that adds megabytes of bloat to your application in order to give you alter

This is why the first thing I do on a new machine is make sure I can switch the arrow to point right for when I'm mousing with my left hand. Some systems make this easy (click the 'flip cursor' box, done!). Others make you s

It may be obvious to someone who bothers to think about it. I get the feeling most people never give it a thought, which is why we're in the predicament that we are.

That he futzed around with function name lengths instead of just fixing the hash function is a pretty good analogy for both the design of the language as a whole and to much of the code that's written in it. Queue "it's popu

Stop with the misleading titles, people! I thought this meant you'd somehow make Dropbox run the website for you, which, while a pretty silly idea, would be interesting. But no, it's just a server that pulls files off Dropbox.

With sufficient metadata about resources this would be perfectly feasible. My thought, though, is that maintaining that metadata (so-and-so needs access to such-and-such, which changes oh-so-often and which is typically a binary blob 0.5-3
