"2 years of college..." This bit right here might need some clarification. I believe the current U.S. average time in college is more than 4 years. I'm guessing you were motivated to get your degree as quickly as possible.

I'm right there with you. There is a lot of FUD on both sides of this issue, it would be nice to know what the reality of tech interviewing is. I can't seem to get passed perfunctory phone screens right now (if I even get those.

I would say it is much worse when that stock is your employer's. Yet, people still gladly take their employers stock (or options) as compensation (whether straight up comp or in a retirement plan.)

Look at the agreement you sign when opening a brokerage account. You give the brokerage firm the right to loan out any shares of stock you own. I believe this only happens in accounts that have margin (you do have to have a margin account
