Because so few people actually redeem their FFMs. They hoard them up. And then quite often, completely in the terms of the program, they don't earn enough and their balance gets wiped. And yes, reward flights usually require you to pay tax,

I thought "wow, 200M!!". That's a huge value per customer! (Considering how small most of them are). And yes, the GroupOn valuation is bubble.

Cars generally still do have backwards nuts on the LHS. Something about vibration and direction of turn. Some of the other bolts on the LHS can be that way too. Same with some of the LP gas cylinders I have encountered here in Aus.

It sounds to me like the Writely engineer who called you didn't know why he was meant to call . That would have set of very loud alarm bells for me. What did you think at the time?!

I just read this and the post-mortem. Whether by luck, or more likely experience, Lanyrd ventured into the event space quite differently from EventVue and all of the companies listed in the article. The emphasis on crowdsourcing to build

Hmm, a move towards a pure big-phat-server:thin-client architecture? Not pretty. "Best practice" moved away from that because our databases were struggling with stored procedures on top of their regular work.

Java was a safe bet for enterprise software companies - it had wide vendor support: Sun, IBM, WebLogic, Oracle, Apple. It also had a strong community: Apache, JBoss, etc. However WebLogic and Sun are now part of Oracle. Apple has backed off

The value of the Java community, for Oracle, is measured by those that are paid to develop Java for licensed (or sold) software products. If you don't to that then you don't get counted. "IBM and Apple are both supporting OpenJDK -- Oracle

You say "got married" = hosted a fantastic wedding, complete with huge conga lines, traditional Jewish chair dance, a wedding "cake" of cheese, otters, owls, eagles, and more!

I find it interesting that almost no one wishes they'd done it sooner. I intend to wait until they can successfully deal with the night time "halo" problem, or at the least minimise it. I enjoy my night vision too much!
