I was merely arguing that the recent turn of events has not proven, Assange's theory about the consequences of being extradited to Sweden, nor that it was the right thing to jump bail.

Swedish policy has changed since 2001. I wonder if there are any more recent examples. But that was on par for the course for Sweden. Back during the Cold War, Sweden sent a lot of Latvians and Lithuanians back on request by the USSR. Sw

Wouldn't he have been safer in Sweden than in the UK? If I were to bet on who were more likely to suck up to the Americans of the two, my money would be on the Brits.

I think a lot of people want to be pedantic, and point out that an aeroplane's autopilot can't do all of it itself, and you therefore still need pilots to manage an airliner. However, that's because a lot of people on HN unde

It's worth noting, that the Tissier modifications extended the hydropneumatic suspension to the extra axis. So despite being a flatbed or newspaper truck, they were still very comfortable. I have seen a Tissier modification of a DS my

Nothing's really free. That's true. By "free service", I mean a service where you or other part (or both) don't pay some sort of subscription fee and/or have a contract with the service provider. But I thoug

For most simple queries, that is correct. But if the query gets complicated, and/or the tables involved have several indexes, where several might be useful, then it might make the wrong decision. I've written plenty of complicat

For a simple query like this, then yes, it will be optimised. But once your queries get more complicated, the optimiser might not be able to make that deduction on its own.

Indeed, Sybase for instance treats a single space (e.g. ' ') the same as an empty string (e.g. ''). For the purpose of concatenating in Sybase, NULL is '' (and thus ' '). So `SELECT a = "a"

Indeed, a faster way to check if a table does _not_ have a comparable row is a LEFT JOIN with a WHERE NULL clause: SELECT t1.* FROM t1 LEFT JOIN t2 ON t2.id = t1.foreign_id WHERE t2.id IS NULL Is a lot faster than the naïve alternative: SEL

The subquery would be in the WHERE clause, and it would be called for each row, thus making it N times slower than the JOIN syntax. There is a reason why this style has been abandoned.

That's the old join syntax before ANSI SQL was designed. Except your operators look like "* =" and "= *" (without whitespace of course, blame HN's markdown parser). Sybase supported this syntax well into its

Certifying aircraft is a long and expensive process. So generally speaking, aviation authorities 'share the burden' by relying on each other. By the same token, the FAA will take an EASA certification of an Airbus aircraft as va

How is the T490 a regression? I've decided to get a T490, and willing to wait out it becoming available with full options in my country. But if it's a regression, I might as well get a T480.

FAA have (or had) such a good record, that other regulators, like EASA, simply trusted a FAA certification. In the same way, FAA trusts an EASA certification for an Airbus plane.

The first figure is a bit obfuscating. It says 1922-1939, but only shows 1926 through 1939. Which is probably a good thing, because then it doesn't include the hyperinflation of the early 1920s, which might undermine the point of &#x
