My solution to that was to have a command mode that separates out the individual keys. So you'd stroke Command/Meta/Shift/[/Command and it would send them all together. A bit cumbersome, but for conflicting sequence

Don't forget the QWERTY mode! Steno requires a huge time commitment to learn, chorded QWERTY much less so. And if you don't like it, it's a QMK based board so it can be reprogrammed! http://docs.gboards.ca/Unb

You're right, it's about prototyping, finding the right components that won't bust the BOM, stress testing, manufacturing molds and handling all the warts of production and fulfillment at scale. A broad range of engineering s

Seems easy enough to check if a device at a given I2C address is there and enable functionality. There few a few devices doing this already. Via has been doing non-flashing keymap updates for years and is cross platform. Reach out and help

I did, My main Issue with the UHK is it doesn't go hard enough. I looks like a half-baked attempt the make a ergonomic board similar to Alice and the Mistel Barraco just with some extra doodads. Cool that it's open-source. Why not

It does, but it's also not very programmable or backed by a open source firmware. Give JWZs review on it a read :)

For the record, if you're a DIY-er you can hack a TrackPoint on there :) https://github.com/qmk/qmk_firmware/blob/master/docs/feature...

Yeah Split Ortho with columnar stagger. Those are important features. Another one is the overall height of a board, the lower and lighter the switch the better. One of the current issues I'm having is simple MX switch height + a given

You can also get good results by dithering images and using the default bitmap importer packaged with KiCad! I posted a link to some images below, been using the technique for a while now. Not as sexy as full colour but it works with damn n

Started playing around with https://gitlab.com/krampus/wormwood , it's a client that seems pretty good. It takes a bit of elbow grease to get going, but this should be fun to play with. Setup is a bit of a pain an

Honestly just having access to a few extra layers and modifiers on the thumbs can greatly reduce the size of a board and improve ergonomics. I can't use boards without thumb clusters anymore! Once you have access to those layers/m

Take a look at ai03s guide over here [1], it's a quick start on making a macropad and walks you through everything. Also the MechKeys discord's #kb-design is very useful for making sure you don't end up with a bunch of coaste

Seconding LCSC here, their prices are pretty damn good for chinese market stuff (and for international musthaves they carry pretty good stock), english support is decent and the shipping combo with PCBs from JLCPCB makes it a nobrainer. I u

Yeah, JWZ is known for being a opinionated guy, a few remaps would have gone a long way. Honestly, the UHK is a great board but what kills it for me is the lack of a hackable firmware. I've gotten to the point where QMK isn't a op

Remap a button. I have the keys to the right of t,g,b mapped to right, middle, left respectively! Really cozy with a trackball for finicky CAD work

It requires a Gergo at the moment. If you know your way around interrupts and QMK you could probably get it into a handwired setup :)

Thank you for writing that. Those words spoke deeply to me and many others that wander these halls even so many years on. It is odd to look back on years later and happen across the author. I hope life is finding you well!

I still miss my Pebble, but picked up a TI-Chronos after losing mine years ago. It hits a sweet spot for me between being user configurable, having limited communications and display and y'know, being a actual wristwatch. It's not
