I'm proud of some of the new features in my perpetual pet project, including channel-based multithreading in Lua scriptlets, so I figured I'd make all of you look at it. It's actually useful to me, I use it to control all my

For the mostpart, Rust error handling is okay. What really rustles my jimmies, however, is the often mandatory indentation because of a lack of an inverse "if let". I prefer to bail out of a block if a condition is NOT met, rathe

Am I the only one not really bothered by the turbofish? I just think 'declarations, no colons. expressions, colons.' and that rule generally works fine for me.

Honestly, they should just toss the file picker and write a new one. It wouldn't be too hard to do. I've written custom file pickers in Qt before, and I've used GTK+'s API a lot for other things, it's not very dif

libc is much smaller than other libraries, and as another has pointed out, compiling it statically will get you only the symbols you actually use, so it doesn't even equal the total size of libc. Which makes more sense? Bloating your e

It could be done if you heavily patched everything you linked in, or developed an entirely new compiler, or both, but as-is, no.

Honestly, I'm team dynamic linking. I prefer to have things clearly separated in functionality and easily upgradeable. Statically linking all the OS utilities to their dependency libraries, over and over again? Dear god that sounds awf

Yes, I know that it's NOT possible. Anything that uses the same libraries, e.g. GTK+, will end up calling gtk_init() multiple times. Callback functions with the same names will collide at link-time. Despite the madness of the code that

I fucking love Crystal. It's a fantastic language that is just now starting to reach maturity. I'd strongly recommend you play with it, if you're a ruby guy.

Two reasons. One, I had to stay near to my elderly mother to help her every few days. Two, if it were merely increased rent, that would be tolerable, but the cost of the act of moving, along with deposits and fees, would be impossible.

Just occurred to me, since Rust has LLVM IR asm directives, can't you write a portable goto in an inline function that jumps directly to pointers? Publish that crate to crates.io? Problem solved.
