I think it's an appropriate reply to someone specifically holding up China's COVID response as an example of the right answer.

We did lockdowns and mask mandates and rapidly created and distributed a vaccine. I don't think the US response was perfect, but I find it unlikely that politicians' numeracy would reduce the death toll by a further 80% when we&#x

I don't understand how what I said is a strawman. I think an active serial killer is orders of magnitude worse than any crypto scam, but I would still take their money- ie. I'm disagreeing with a stronger version of your point.

Taking a donor's money is at most an implicit endorsement. If an active serial killer gave me a million dollars to make the world a better place, it would be wrong for me to refuse to move money from a bad actor to those in need.

"Turtles are all animals with shells" is falsifiable in the sense that you can say an animal without a shell is falsely called a turtle, and that an example of an animal with a shell that is not a turtle disproves the definition.

The overwhelming majority of people who interact with a given issue on social media are not psy-ops operators or 4chan trolls. Speaking from a deeply shameful amount of experience interacting with given issues on social media, at most we&#x

What does this mean? It's catchy, but what mechanism exists where a political position can run out of room? The space is defined by the number of inhabitants.

You don't need to convince someone who already doesn't believe what they're saying. The overwhelming majority of people are not psy-ops operators or 4chan trolls. If someone invents new idiotic positions when they are proven

If you don't want people "moving the goalposts", don't set them up at the 40-yard line, where they very apparently do not go. You are bringing a lot of vitriol to the table, unprompted. A personal failing is that I can&#

Voltaire was a passionate defender of free speech. Communist China and Weimar Republic Germany both had laws to suppress speech prior to their overthrow. Maoist China, Nazi Germany, and Islamist countries in the Middle East all suppressed o

The bar has to be a little higher than that. I can go to any protest and shout, "Kill the President." At a minimum, I have to have the intent of following through, otherwise I'm just some loud nutjob at somebody else's p

No one is asking Young to acknowledge Rogan's existence, much less engage with him. He is refusing to associate himself with an entity because they are not censoring his idealogical adversaries. If Neil Young pulled his music from Spot

A lot of people in this thread are correctly pointing out the Neil Young is within his rights to only allow his music to be played on censorious platforms. What's missing is anyone saying that he isn't. A racist is within their ri

It's a real shame. It's so hard to find web 'toys' nowadays- games without objectives, but with pretty, interactive visuals. I used to have a set of hundreds of them, but that list was deleted when StumbleUpon went under

I don't know if this will be helpful to you, but I'm throwing it out there. In a consequentialist, utilitarian moral system, revenge cannot be a moral good on its own. If a universe where one person gets hurt is worse than a unive

I cannot figure out why the US writes laws in terms of nominal value while maintaining an inflationary currency. The majority of lawmakers agree that a law should be x with respect to the current value of USD, why don't they also agree
