They're not using computational advantages, they're using coordination advantages via entanglement. See: the quantum pseudo-telepathy article on wikipedia [1], which has an example of a game where players with entangled particles

Functions passed as arguments can be traced the same way you trace values. You find all invocations of the surrounding function and see what function arguments are being passed in. It's more involved than just grepping for the name, bu

In your first post, everything is "linq is bad" in generic terms except for these two bits: > "it falls apart in real-world persistent code with considered algorithms and storage" > "it makes it so easy to do

You've actually been pretty vague about the concepts you're criticizing, except for "LINQ". Now I can see you were alluding to just the deferred execution part (the "lack of memoization"). Basically, you'r

Functional languages use the concepts you're criticizing even more extensively than LINQ does.

Unfortunately, it's really really difficult to test for randomness. We can test for particular patterns, but nowhere near what a determined human with access to the source code can find. At the moment, the only "correct" test

(Note: When I say LINQ I am referring to the functional style it encourages, not the query syntax. The query syntax is nice, but it's just a trivial syntactic transformation.) Correct me if I'm wrong, but the world is moving towa

Sure, but you need to then do something with that digest. Store it, compare it against other digests, etc. Whether or not those actions constitute "crypto" is hard to determine. For example, git uses SHA-1 digests as unique identi

SHA1 is vulnerable because the entire internal state of the hash function is used as the output. This allows you to 'keep going' and extend what was hashed. SHA-3 is not vulnerable because it only uses a subset of the internal sta

I can easily imagine someone thinking that "crypto" covers the choice of hash function, but not the prepend-secret-and-hash construction. (I'm actually not sure how to quantify what is and isn't crypto, in a way that&#x2

I agree with the article. Perfect forward secrecy (given master private key, still can't figure out derived session keys) is a wonderful property. However, it's a bit over-reaching to say it can "block the NSA". It won&#

The difference is that the null check is front and center, instead of hidden. In C# or Java, the member access expression "a.b" contains a null check. There's no way to do a member access that doesn't do a null check (

It was actually TCP, which made delivering player actions reliably and in order trivial to do. The data in the TCP stream was divided into messages prefixed by a type and a size, which is what I meant when I said "packet".

Of course, the behavior may be intended. I've certainly taken advantage of nil doing nothing. I've also accidentally had a nil where it wasn't expected, and lost time figuring out why particular effects weren't occurring. More time than I

I don't think objective-C satisfies any of those constraints. It kinda gets close , but I don't think it does. The compiler checks types... but there's no generics. Given that the author is coming from C++, they probably want a type system

This is a perfect example of mismatched incentives. When a deterrent is working, you get very few violations. Rewarding the detection of violations is incentivizing exactly the wrong thing. You're rewarding for making things worse! I don't
