The worst part about this from a parent's perspective was that there was absolutely no warning. My daughter was all excited for her once-daily episode of Dora, and suddenly it wasn't there even though mommy and daddy said it would be. (I ta

My best understanding is that in general, issues related purely to quantum entanglement are entirely unrelated to causality. As noted in the article, even the "spooky action at a distance" that made Einstein so uncomfortable cannot be used

It is hard to come up with entirely new problems for every exam every year. That doesn't mean that doing so isn't important, but it really is time consuming and a whole lot of work. It's also painfully easy to think that you've changed

I don't think I can comment on that with any authority at all. Is it possible that using a blue light as the source rather than UV reduces the degradation of the phosphorescent coating?

I'm not an expert (just a physics prof), but my understanding is that LEDs always emit one specific color (wavelength) of light rather than white light (which is a mixture of many wavelengths). So if you want to use an LED to produce white

Looks like CipherCloud's basis for trying to get this question taken down was the screenshots. Looked like classic fair use to me, but I'd rather see the answers up and public, even without the explicit illustrations. (Context: https://new

The previous poster didn't say "We can assume they have arrested the correct person", they said (in effect), "If we assume for the sake of argument that they have arrested the correct person". Your point is absolutely valid, but entirely se

Your comments seem strangely insensitive, given that I already said that I'm a physicist (and presumably a modern one). As I've already indicated, there's reason to be skeptical when physicists stretch past the usual boundaries of the disci

I haven't read the original paper, but (speaking as a physicist) I'm always skeptical when physicists leap into extremely different disciplines and claim to have a grand insight that its specialists have never considered before. It could al

I did not say "Men are oppressors" or "Blame men". I said, in a nutshell, "Blame our social structures that tend to favor men." There's a very real difference there in terms of the moral claims being made. And yes, feminism is also concerne

As I said to the previous poster, if you have a shred of evidence that "the feminists" consider this app to be acceptable (not just "less bad"), you should share it now. If you don't, then you might want to pause for a few minutes and serio

I have two reactions to this, and I think most people who care about sexism in our society would agree with both: 1. From the sound of it, this is a horribly sexist product that dehumanizes men and reinforces traditional gender roles. I hop

Even when there's no scaling involved, gamma information embedded in an image can certainly be meaningful. Among other things, they can be used to correct for the fact that different OS's or devices can assume different default gamma factor
