Mac users eagerly recommend importing Linux tools (Docker, Brew) to make MacOS a tolerable dev environment. But they completely miss the fact that Apple makes it illegal to do the reverse: I can not run a MacOS VM on Linux. I can't und

Moderation, either top-down curation or bottom-up mute/block, is not a solution. Either way, you're going to haphazardly create echo chambers, which aren't great at maintaining free speech.

I feel like there was an indirect experiment here: how quickly defenseless humans can be mauled by a struggling cat in an enclosed space.

Achieving tunneled X applications is not hard, as you said it's a solved problem, but I have never found it worth the effort either. 1. VNC has a "stable session" that doesn't collapse when SSH closes. Even between Linux

That's a completely useless comparison that applies almost no where in the world? You need to compare driving vs pervasive transit and bike networks. I doubt New Yorkers or Amsterdammers would accept your efficient car hypothesis. In t

LOL, cars don't go anywhere near 25mph in Boston. They'll average 15mph, if they're lucky. Even with ~70% of the right of way allocated to cars, there's still too many of them for the road to handle. I don't know wh

Also importantly, solutions don't magically appear. Someone needs to do the work and before even that happens, the problems need to be identified and studying.

Politicians are not going to go out of their way to hurt industry unless the public are rabidly screaming for it. These reports are for the public to generate that push.

I doubt you're going to win your argument using RT as an example. We're one whoopsie away from war. That's very different than regular censorship.

At a government level, you can not banish politics without infringing on speech. Your proposal directly conflicts with the first amendment. If Disinformation was simply promoting outdated chauvinism, it wouldn't be perceived as such a

The esp32 vs avr split covers a pretty wide range of needs. esp32 for wifi stuff, horsepower, or just more pins. The AVR is for power sipping things: ATtiny pulls 10nA(!) in deep sleep and you don't need a voltage regulator on a 1s lit

Rust and esp32 was a rough ride for setup. The pthread rwlock thing stumped me for a while because I missed `esp_idf_sys::link_patches()` in main. I eventually found that missing piece and got it going. It's hard to tell which MCU is p

I'm waiting for a System76 laptop with AMD graphics, no numpad(!), and not a 1080p screen. It's hard to talk about price when it doesn't exist.

The "semi autonomous" in the title makes me think of FSD cars. It's amusing to think of the differences in caution for adopting new technology: "might cause a crash" versus "might end the world".

I am a Sway (i3 wayland) user and was forced into a MacBook for work. You're going to find Amethyst (and MacOS in general) deeply disappointing. It tries its best but MacOS is a very toxic place for enabling power users.

I discovered that some of my "USB-C" devices only charge with a USB-A to USB-C cable. They won't charge at all with a C to C cable. I'm not sure what the problem is but it's a bit disappointing.
