I can't begin to tell you how excited the thought that I can have my car mostly powered from solar panels on the garage roof makes me.

Your comment kind of assumes that tomorrow every car in existence will turn into an EV. If you realize that it will actually be a more gradual process, the question actually becomes "but who will provide supply for a thing that is in s

Hm, you're right, I guess I've seen a non-1000 user very rarely. However, for a company of tens to hundreds of people where you want them to be able to develop locally, you might very well hit this issue, and if you hardcode 1000

That's interesting, thanks! My shell sets the USER variable (but no USERID or GROUPID), which might be good enough for all our developers, but probably not reliable enough for a general audience.

Doesn't "quite good" mean "great"? That was my impression, at least.

PhotoPrism does this too.

I think this is a mismatch between UK English where "quite" means "extremely" and US English where "quite" means "mostly".

This has been a major Docker pain point, and not many people know about this trick. I didn't know you could have the variables in the Compose file directly, does that really work? Our approach so far was to add yet another layer (a scr

We have it? Is it called "repair and protect" here too? I'm gonna get it.

Ahh, that makes sense. Yes, unfortunately there's too much cultural context in advertising copy for it to translate even loosely.

Oh man, this looks cool but the writing took me right out of the announcement. I don't usually notice bad writing, but this prose seems purpler than usual.

I can see both sides of this, though as a data point I also read it as "viral or otherwise".

In particular, INAV has problems with keeping the position of the horizon accurately, and usually thinks it's going straight while it's dramatically losing altitude. So, "all of the above", really. The biggest issue is t

Why not double? Why not ten times, or a hundred, for extra convincingness? The fact is that it only has to be good enough for them to find the people that they want, rather than for pleasing random HN commenters.

This is correct, but to clarify something, you don't need ExpressLRS for OpenHD, they're entirely independent (one is for control, the other for video). Also, Ardupilot blows INAV completely out of the water for reliability, at le

I beg to differ, it looks quite a bit better than analog, even past the fact that "good" analog at that distance is already hard to achieve.

I can contribute some INAV/ArduPilot logs if you want. This would be a great feature.

The ebooks are a cheap and more convenient way to read these particular stories. I've bought all three of them from https://gumroad.com/qntm , because they're great.

How do you tell that the calculations were done correctly? Presumably you have some way of doing that. Then, why don't you apply that way to the output? You don't need tests if you only need to do it once.

I tried that but they took it as a joke :/ Now they'll sometimes make fun of me (in a good-natured way) about hating chewing sounds, and to complain about it "formally" would be too serious/offputting.

I'm the same, and I have a friend who loudly smacks his lips when eating, it's insufferable. To make matters worse, whenever we meet it's usually over some kind of meal, so I am at a loss for what to do.

The deliverable here isn't the code, it's the output. If "check expected outputs" is a subjective step anyway, why not just check that the output of the code when run on the data is as expected and skip the test altogeth
