Aviary has been around a while and its been mentioned several times, but it never seems to 'stick' with me. I always see it, remember its potential usefulness, and forget about it the next day.

I agree with #3 the most: know the difference betweeen CS and software engineering. Specifically, if you want to do Software Engineering, be prepared to spend a lot of time learning it yourself. CS teaches you the fundamentals of programmin

mmm... This reminds me of the J/P split in MBTI. Its not exclusive, but Js tend to like work and Ps tend to like play. Read up about it if you're curious: http://www.geocities.com/lifexplore/mbintro.htm

the site is very good, but i'll have to agree with op (of this comment). analytics is very important. i would switch from wordpress to this because this has a lot more options than a blogging engine but it still can be used as one.

I think HN people just aren't your audience (or they'd be on digg, reddit, etc.) so I don't think you should take this particular feedback seriously. On the plus side, I think its has potential to be another nice social hub on the internet.

I have similar results. I think its because I tend to write about what I'm not used to, good at, or what needs to improve either in a form of a complaint or a resolve to do better.

Think about it from OO's creator's perspective. For instance, this is what the creator of inheritance probably thought: "All of these objects do very similar things. I don't want to have to write these functions over an over again if they'r

Just think about it as a change in structure - all your implementation stays the same, but where the code resides gets moved around a bit. This moving around eventually ends up making your code read like a short hand walkthrough of some tas

Message-Oriented coding is also why commenting is so important. You don't need to know what's going on inside the method, but you do need to know what the method does, which is best accomplished through documentation. O.O is useful to you b

RadRails works well for me. Its really about how familiar you get with the program, and how much you customize it to suit your coding habits (and how much you prefer the mouse). Customizations that I use/advocate: 1) Get or make a good colo

You've invested a lot into this - I can tell you that your friendship will never quite be the same. Still, try to keep it, as 10 years is quite an investment. Read up on his personality type. MBTI has helped me figure out why I can't get mo

I like this article. Its like saying "Lets not use banks cause they can just take your money, profit from it, and may not even give it back to you." Which, ironically, is true because of the financial crisis. The solution though is not to "

well, in RockYou's case, you could get around Facebook's privacy settings, which is seriously not cool. Imagine the outcry of Facebook's initial newsfeed, and multiply it by 10, and you'll find that shutting down RockYou was a good choice.

It is useful and important - just not to hackers. If you look at the range of MBTI personality types (not that this is hard evidence), there's plenty of people who don't view the world in terms of focus, efficiency, and usefulness. In fact,
