I think people forget what high school is like. I had something like what you've described. It was called "Life Skills". Most students treated it like other courses - they didn't care at all and learned almost nothing. I

Exactly. Get on a strength training program. Once you develop a strong posterior chain almost any chair will do. Your back doesn't hurt after 15 mins of sitting when you can deadlift 405.

I didn't say it was a religion. Divination is the preformative aspect of astrology, tarrot cards, and the like. All the religions you mentioned have equally silly preformative aspects. Most folks attend church for a sense of community

I don't think we can expect the religious instinct, found in every known human society, to just disappear. Astrology seems to be an alright stand in. It lets people find meaning and exercise all the necessary symbolic pattern matching

There is a distinction, but you can't simply separate sex into biology and gender into cultural construction. There is still much debate as to how much of this set of behaviours is biological. Many animals exhibit sex roles.

A good friend of mine is the head of the ICU in a mid-sized hospital in a city that's been hit hard. Every day he wakes up at 5am, works from 6am to 9pm, goes home and cries for half an hour, then goes to bed. That's been his dail

People have been saying this every year for half a decade now. But it's the same podcast as it ever was. Eric Weinstein was fantastic, Freddie Gibbs and Brian Moses were hilarious, Tim Dillion was the exact amount of ridiculous you&#x2

It's all a replay of Harold Bloom. "They say all bad poetry is sincere. And Maya Angelou is very sincere." He laments that her work achieves undeserving canonical status, and no one wants to disagree for fear of being called

Reg T only covers initial equity leverage for retail investors. It probably doesn't apply to anyone you hear about in the wsj. There are basically no all-encompassing, market-wide regulations for institutions.

It's called the Bob Rubin trade. For years you stack up risk and profit immensely from it ($125 million). When things eventually blow up you simply... step away. So sure, people were fired, but it's not like they are giving back a

I watched some of the Michelin star chef videos. They are pretty terrible. Camera is shaky, audio is all over the place, random people come in frame and start conversations, instructions are not at all clear, etc. They seem to have an appro

Humbert is a creep and absolutely the bad guy. The genius is that he's also a sympathetic character and the reader is forced to struggle with that. Very few works are able to do this so well. It's the reason why it's a master

This is most likely the answer. They are taking on a lot of risk allowing this type of trading behavior. They likely don't have suitable risk infrastructure developed to feel like they have a handle on it, so they shut it down.

As an engineer you should care about cost and other tradeoffs. At this point Waymo is not much more than an exorbitantly expensive tech demo. I sure hope that one day it is more than that. Tesla has a million cars on the road. It is a techn

The Medallion fund had 17 years of incredible performance before their other funds existed. So that's not a good explanation. The $5 billion in unpaid taxes is a small fraction of their total returns. So again, not a great explanation.

So it has 70 years of seasoning! I bet it works great. The whole point of the article is to take a newer pan and make it perform like yours, without needing 70 years of use.

by Spinnaker_ 6y ago
You might be confused as to what the seasoning is. You can't just wash it away. It takes something like oven cleaner to strip it. Many, if not most, pans today come preseason-ed. And they do it exactly like in the article: a very hot o
