1) You need CPU produced in late 2022, not in 2023. I deliberately checked the date code when was buying the CPU. 2) You need a motherboard with old miccrocode. 3) You need to disable microcode update in your OS, be it Windows or Linux.

Well if you count expected power consumption of each component and limited efficiency of the power supply, plus reports of people idling their 3470 based machines at 12w (full system) yeah, good enough. I mean what is your point? The 35W id

Reported by the motherboard's current sensor.

by SomeRndName11 3y ago
I actually measured the whole system. With motherboard, HDD, SSD and RAM it idled at 30W. CPU took only 7w from all of that.

Yep, owned i5 3470 for several years, and it was very fast for me. Bought 12500 only because I needed AVX512 (and it is the best AVX512 around, with FP16).

Where do you get this number 35W from? My Ivy Bridge 3470 idles at 7 watt (cpu only). Most of energy is consumed by the monitor anyway (20-25 Watt) anyway, so the energy savings are minuscule.

HiDPI is not perfect neither in KDE (arguably, better situation)not in Gnome, compared to Win 11. When your enable scaling, window's context menu (left click on menu) is not scaled in debian 12 and Ubuntu, irrespective of environment v

Ahahahaha, 19th century banks had tiny circulation of their own Mickey Mouse notes, compare to global reach of the dollar. Now who would police the banks, lol who would arbitrary decline the notes in case of low liquidity?

LOL, most liberatrains are not even aware how deeply they depend on the "nanny". Starting with law enforcement and capturing those who counterfeit money.

Cannot figure out if it is a genuine comment or trolling. Equally silly either way.

Is it really an important distinction? They are owned and run by the same people - Springer Nature.
44.
by SomeRndName11 3y ago
Nature is not the same magazine it used to be. After the "Proximal Origins" paper especially.

The CVS receipts are too long though.

by SomeRndName11 3y ago
Yeah, did same in 1999 or 2000, but we _did_ _not_ take the HDD from the freezer, just pulled the ribbon and power cable through the narrow slit between the door's rubber gasket and the fridge's body.

I worked in some ex-USSR government facility, and they had an old hp-9000 system, that needed ram upgrade. HP wanted some ridiculous thousands of $$ for like 16MiB of RAM. After some inspection it was discovered that the RAM is nothing mor

Precisely. Most people "enjoy" alcohol because it is socially accepted drug, but for many people so many other substances would be a lot more enjoyable, without collateral damage of alcohol for society. Alcohol is a poor choice fo

Alcohol is the most boring psychoactive substance ever, even Benadryl is more fun. I really do not understand those who enjoy the experience.

If you think carbon dioxide is scary, wait for your cup of Pepsi. (Low toxicity of CO2 is actually one of the reasons it is not treated seriously enough).

one can also try profile guide optimisation and CLANG. GCC an LLVM outperform each other on different code,.

by SomeRndName11 3y ago
Yo can try it on FreeDOS, it is very close to bare metal.

by SomeRndName11 3y ago
I wonder how much faster on AVX-512 this thing will run
54.
by SomeRndName11 3y ago
How exactly it would fool readelf, which works on entirely different principles?
55.
by SomeRndName11 3y ago
Well FreeDOS is not a legacy OS, it is actively maintained one. Besides, DOS is the simplestg hard RTOS, due to being single-task, zero protection, close to the metal system.
