This is an instance of the orthogonality thesis, by the way. Your assertion is that "increased ability to think" should cause "increased desire to eat Traditional Food (tm)", which is no more true than the assertion &quo

I'll need someone to step in with a link to the actual post, because I can't think of the right search terms, but he has (of course) written about this in the past. His self-described schtick is to write about existing things in s

I think the author even grants too much to the opposing viewpoint. Think of e.g. Prolog vs LISP vs C vs Haskell. I wouldn't call those "different forms of the same mathematics"; I'd be more likely to call them "diff

That's a rather blanket statement. Depends on the work! I have certainly had paid employment where I frequently just sat down at 8am, programmed and programmed, realised about 3pm that I hadn't eaten yet, and stopped for a break.

The usual advocacy point is to reduce most of the other taxes and send the LVT way up. "We should have a land value tax" is usually meant to mean "most tax should be on land".

One would certainly hope that your exhaled breath contains a higher concentration of carbon dioxide than is present in the ambient air! For it to be lower , your lungs would have to be somehow removing CO2 from the air, which doesn't

I don't know much about it, I'm afraid. But there is the very cool fact that the usual Riemann integral can be written as basically just a sum in nonstandard analysis; it's covered very neatly in André Pétry, "Analyse

The construction is fairly easy but requires some fairly hefty background knowledge to make formal. In brief, though: an ordinary real number can be implemented as a sequence of rational numbers, with two sequences considered to be "th

I claim that the first undergrad course in Analysis is not actually there primarily to teach you real analysis. Rather, it's there to teach you the difference between "forall exists" and "exists such that forall", a

I think the problem is that describing it as "would have deleted 1378 servers", and then going off and deleting those 1378 servers, doesn't solve the race condition problem that leaves you with some servers left undeleted bec

That's all very well for just `--dry-run`, but it's still a problem if you use the method in OP to architect the entire tool (and in particular the non-dry-run execution) around the existence of a `--dry-run` phase.

If you mean "why Parse, Don't Validate", you should read the original blog post, linked at the top of the article. It's… transformative, if you aren't already aware of the principle. https://lexi-lambda.g
