Personally, I think planning out which languages you're going to learn over the course of an entire year is a pretty good plan on how to not become a hacker. Think about what you're about to do - you have a startup idea and want to execute

Yea, sorry. You happened to try it during the exact moment that I was pushing some minor JS/CSS changes to that server. It should be properly functioning again. Your messages should appear as you send them. And, when you first open the page

Yea. For the real time part of it, which is the coolest part, it would need enough concurrent users to where when you connect from any major city you would see at least a few people broadcasting. This is somewhat why I added the message arc

This is a prime example of what most content on TC has been, lately. I've been sensing a decline in the quality of content on that site, lately.

proof that a catchy domain name, alone, can generate buzz. the site looks very nice, too, even though it doesn't have much on it. so, what market is this in, anyways? :p

Market it outside of Facebook sort of like you just did here, on HN? Neglecting a proper landing page (or just an about page, in general) is like making potential users play roulette with your app. Maybe I'll authorize it, maybe I won't. No

Well, for starters, I'd suggest making an actual landing page for your dot com. I was going to go check out your site but it goes directly to the Facebook authorization page. I have absolutely no idea what sgenie.com is, at this point. I'm

Can't you already do this with the built in iOS functionality? On my iPhone 4, my contacts are in groups already. I did not create the groups manually - I think iTunes created them when I synced with my computer. I do have several groups, t

Be realistic about it. This project doesn't sound funded, so odds are you can't quite shell out $15,000 on a hunch that your site might take off. Perhaps come up with an even leaner MVP and release it sooner and under a similar, cheaper .co

Agreed. I typically default to a larger font size. An example of my blog font size: http://ryancole.co/just-another-page-full-of-lipsum I think it's just easier to read, all around.

Congratulations. I've been looking at moving to Austin, recently. I'm from Dallas, so I'm familiar with the area and it's a great one.

I don't cook often but this could be cool. But, as somebody who does not cook often, this would probably be most beneficial to me if I saw a recipe somewhere else and was able to easily bookmark it or import it. I'm not sure how legal that'

Thank you for all the responses. I'm quickly seeing why the HN community is so revered. I think sometimes I just get frustrated at the idea of somebody else sitting down and hacking out a product over night, much like I do, except that they
