Regarding the C# -> C++ -> JS thing, it really must alot easier to do a C# -> JS conversion...

All true, but you're forgetting that Mono can AOT compile C# to native code using LLVM. That's how Xamarin.iOS works. So il2cpp doesn't really bring anything new to the table.

It's important to consider that C++ code, is not the same as C# to C++ code. The Facebook guys originally converted PHP to C++ code for speed, just like il2cpp, but eventually they wrote a JIT because it was faster AND they could keep

Java becomes more and more popular because the cases where you would benefit greatly from manual memory management, are getting fewer. It's also more easier to avoid mistakes in Java than C/C++, in my personal opinion. Rust could

Java usually outperform standard allocators because allocation in Java is more or less just bumping a pointer. The JVM GC pre-allocates memory, so this is trivial. De-fragmentation is something you pay for with GC runs.

Problem is that escape analysis can't always do a good enough job, it doesn't catch everything. Lead JVM developers have stated this themselves, which is why Orcale is exploring how to implement value types on the JVM. Naturally,

For .NET you should really read about structs, which allocates on the stack instead of the heap, and thus avoids the GC most of the time. Oracle is working on a struct implementation for Java 9 or Java 10. Using an arena/buffer/ca

This post seems to be based on certain erronous assumptions. First, he seems to believe that "size of allocated memory" == "longer collection time", this is not true, especially when, as he says, most of the allocated me

I read this guide ALOT when trying to understand how a VM worked, this guide was invaluable. It gave me enough knowledge to write my own VM. Recommended!

What? Java and Python are great portable languages, and they definitely do not suck on Mac or Linux. The only languages that does not suck on Windows (i'm biased, I really hate development on Windows) is the .NET family of languages.

Don't understand why you would need seperate functions for those three first. map-keys would basically just be map with (keys coll), map-values would be with (vals coll) and entries would just be a normal map, as hashmaps in Clojure ar

Depends on what you are after I guess. Datomic puts the query engine in your application, so you're querying over a built-in cache. This means Datomic could be rediculusly fast for often requested data (should always be in cache). Dato

As far as I know, websql is deprecated. No work has been done on the standard since 2010. Firefox, Chrome and IE supports IndexedDB. There exists a shim that uses websql or indexeddb, depending on what's available.

Kotlin is a good improvement over Java 8 for three reasons, in my view. Less verbose: Not everything has to be in a class. Structural typing: val/var a = 5; Explicit null: String? can be null, String can't. It also helps that Kotl
