The thing is, naked scope blocks are missing the main reason I'd use a nested function: the ability to be named. I do occasionally use scope blocks when I want to constrain the scope of one or more local variables, and there isn't

Situations like this are exactly where nested functions can be helpful. I've always thought that it was a shame that C didn't have them. Sometimes I almost wish that Algol flavored languages like Pascal anf Modula 2 would have won

I've heard this reasoning (that 80 col terms are directly due to the 80 cols on a punched card), but never any proof. Frankly, it sounds like numerology, to me. "Hey! Both these numbers are 80, and they describe closely related di

To be clear, are you referring to security bugs in the Java standard library (written almost completely in Java), or those in the JVM itself or the browser plugins (written almost entirely in C++), or in Java code bases? The vast majority o

If that's the dialog I think it is, there should be a cancel button that would then roll back the update. Takes a good long while, and is BS of course, but would land you back where you were. Of course, they seem to be iterating on the

Not my experience at all. I find IDEA to be more responsive that Eclipse, both on Windows and Linux. Not by a whole lot, but noticeably so. Even recent NetBeans releases are just as responsive, in my experience, as recent Eclipse versions.

CLion and AppCode are the exceptions to that rule currently, though I wouldn't be surprised to see the CLion functionality get folded back in to IDEA eventually.

Actually, AMD/ATI spun off their fab into a separate business. Makes sense, really. Lets them more easily fab their chips where it makes sense, while still giving them fallback for safety.
