Base64 images and URLs are possible with extensions, but simple files are better IMO. Getting URLs asynchronously doesn’t work well, and base64 embedding seriously bloats the text file and makes it more difficult to plain text tools on it.

It’s as trivial as images in markdown, but there are more optional config options and extensions to, e.g., just paste from the clipboard.

I have images, audio, and backlinks using UUIDs in my terminal emacs. The image support is the worst, as I have to open the image and then it takes over the screen until I dismiss it, but it’s usable.

I believe in the opposite; systematic incompetence is no different from malice, and this is usually well understood by the people who have influence over the system.

Laziness has costs, that’s not a new thing. You want something, you have to work for it.

The problem with “good” fiat is that it is never good for everyone. Inflation usually hits discriminatorily. And it doesn’t last. Even the US now has high inflation. The gold standard has its problems, but putting hard limits on currency cr

Perhaps, but replacing the gold standard with no backing is not then the answer. There should be hard accountability on anyone who can create money. Cryptographic measures seem promising in this regard, but I have never heard of governments

Externalities, Nash equilibria, and fairness are good keywords to start understanding why the “natural state of affairs” can suck for the majority of people.

Automation and composability are an important part of a UI. CLI tools also generally beat GUIs in speed. A hypothetical text2pdf runs almost instantly. Doing the same thing with Word can take 5 minutes.

What are the laws on stolen gold from a bank? In my country, the bank has zero responsibility and is doing a best-efforts service.

If this kind of thinking was prevalent, it might work. It is currently not, and I doubt posting about it will help much. Besides, there are lots of incompetent people who prefer the current dishonesty, so breaking this Nash equilibrium is h

Do you have any actual empirical evidence? In my undergrad, even different STEM departments (e.g., math, EE) had differing rigor and workload based on the average scores they required of admissions. Almost all grading was done relative to o

Lisp syntax is simpler than other languages. Unfortunately, simplicity often clashes with conciseness. In Python, you can do neat stuff like `[a[a!=0][:, 8] for a in A]`. It is possible to somewhat replicate the same ease of use using (read

The banking system has zero security for you as an individual. The DB admins though? They do enjoy some security. (Still not as much as Bitcoin, having central points of failure.)

It makes petty people feel they have power over you. It’s not like they are that wrong. We like to reward norm enforcing, but we aren’t sufficiently inoculated against exploitative ones. The end game can be seen in any big religion.
