Just being able to text and send location would be huge for emergency communications and letting people know you are ok. This will probably completely replace sat based communicators like Garmin inReach.

Mechanical transmission are in the high 90's percent efficient at highway speed, almost no losses. Diesel Electric transmissions in trains are in the 80's percent efficient range, double conversion from mechanical to electrical ba

Not surprising, the commercial version of the ISB in question only goes up to 360hp rating, usually they run 300 or 340 hp. The commercial versions all have SCR (Urea Injection) along with DPF an EGR. In the pickup it's rated 400 hp. I

Its actually difficult to for a "regulator" to do what battery does, the battery can output significant surge as needed and its resistance drops as voltage rises absorbing large spikes without issue. In the Cybertruck there would

Normally the battery is the regulator it serves to buffer inrush loads and absorb spikes.

As mentioned in the 42v article they went with that due to 48v nominal being too close to 60v max on alternator/fully charged which is the limit shock hazard. Not sure what chemistry/cell count will be for the 48v battery (which I

Remember a fully charged lithium battery with nominal 48v can be close to 60v just like 12v in your car is actually closer to 14v.

I would prefer relational databases just have a compound hierarchal data type that can contain all the types it supports. Json is so anemic on types. This way it can efficiently store numbers , dates, uuids or raw binary etc. and should rea

These are not DC power supplies, thats whats inside the car, a boost DC power supply converting 240v AC to 400v or 800v DC, thats what regulates current and voltage to the batteries. If the AC "charger" attempted to regulate curre

Diesel electric drive are only around 80% efficient while a mechanical transmission is 95%+. It is a misconception that trains use them for efficiency, trains get their efficiency from low rolling resistance from steel wheels on steel track

A Jeep can have over 100:1 gear ratio in low range with torque converter and transmission and axles, its can put 20,000 to 30,000 lbs/ft to the wheels a quad motor Rivian is a fixed 12.6:1 gear ratio so 11440.8 lbs/ft to the wheel

I posted below but you cannot fully simulate a locker with independent motors. The quad motor Rivian is actually inferior to the dual motor for rock crawling due to this. The quad motor Rivian produces 908 lbs/ft of torque which means

Yeah just need larger motors that can put out more torque which adds more cost and weight. Or you can have a way to connect each side with a locker or a single larger motor with brake locker control like dual motor vs quad motor Rivian'

It's not about turning at the same pace, the side that has no traction cannot send its torque to the side that does without a mechanical connection. Each wheel is limited to the maximum torque of a single motor vs torque being sent to
