I work at Google, but all statements/opinions are my own. My understanding is that there were two changes: 1. General responsibility for authenticating to Google services has been moved to Chrome, and being logged into Google is equiva

I’ve been really into the nRF52832 lately, a newer chip from the same company as the nRF24LE1 mentioned in the article. It has BLE, and you can find dev boards with all of the IO pins exposed for $5 (sometimes $2.50 on sale) on AliExpress,

Can you share any more detail about this? My impression was that anyone who shared another internet connection with the mesh does it through a VPN tunnel, so traffic exits through the mesh's PoP.

The first time I used Go on a big project, error handling bugged me enough that I wrote a package that let me use errors like exceptions: https://github.com/s4y/go-exc I’m not sure if I’d use it again today, but it was

Yes. On both iOS and Android, the wallet should open on its own when the phone detects a payment terminal. You don't have to double-tap the power button.

The best example I’ve seen recently is Dynamicland, which is building a self-hosting, collaborative computer. Pieces of paper represent programs and UIs, and you can grab a wireless keyboard and place it in front of anything to inspect and

I'm in the middle of a project using a related microcontroller (the nRF52832). When I started, I had very little electronics/embedded experience, and now I have more! It's absolutely doable.

Mike Mullane’s “Normalisation of Deviance” talk to a group of firefighters[1] is relevant here. He describes how the Challenger shuttle disaster happened despite internal memos about the problem years prior. The message of the talk is, esse

Let's say that Q, W, and E are 1Ω, 2Ω, and 4Ω, respectively. I'll pretend they're wired in series to make the numbers work out nicely, but it should also work in parallel. If you measure 3Ω, then Q and W are pressed. 6Ω: W an

If your app/web page isn’t doing work in the background and doesn’t receive mouse events, the energy impact should be close to nil — it should sit solidly at 0.0% CPU usage in Activity Monitor, else something isn’t right.

Another approach is to create a window at desktop level. It can even display a web page with a system web view — you probably want to opt the window out of receiving mouse events, too, to avoid interfering with drag selection on the Deskt

That article led me to the page on Cherry’s site about their “analog keyboard controller”, which promises no scanning latency. “Analog” suggests to me that each key has its own power-of-two-ish resistor value, and the controller can just lo

A customer service rep doesn’t have to have all the answers, but they should be equipped to find them, or at least find a next step (which they did, in this case). The author didn’t handle this optimally and neither did the CSR. Should they
