Fair enough. If that is your evaluation of the article, then that's cool. I usually try not to completely write off people that I know are smarter than I am in a particular area (Stonebraker), just because I don't understand or agree with

So...you read the Wikipedia link and the main thing you got out of it is that the guy is "academically merited"?! The part about him founding five DBMS companies and being the CTO of one of the largest DBMS companies in the world doesn't su

I appreciate the link wmf...I read Gruber's blog, but I missed that post. I agree with John's premise that "Just because someone is satisfied with a bad deal doesn't mean it isn't a bad deal." I'm not, however, going to get morally outrage

Cool. PCL is a great book. And, yes, CL is incredibly practical for many purposes. PCL/CL are much more worthy of your time than newLISP.

[Diplomatic Hat On] I would personally stick with a Scheme or with one of the better CLs (SBCL, etc.) over newLISP. NewLISP is interesting for the space it occupies and it can be fun, but it also has some really wonky ideas that I think a

I was in a similar situation to you a little over a year ago, although from the sound of it our situation was a bit more dire: I learned that there were a number of patents (12+) that covered nearly every variation of our business method

One of my favorite Barnum stories is probably more well-known: His Scudder's American museum in New York was struggling, in part, because the customers he did have would often end up lingering in front of the exhibits for an unnaturally lon
