I had the same experience. I've bombed a lot of CS interviews - a lot more than I've done well on, hah! I'm a couple classes away from a Master's in CS and would still have to study my butt off to be successful in a wh

I agree with everything you've said wholeheartedly. Personally I could never live in the city again - been there done that. It seems to be very popular here on HN though. Probably going off on a tangent here, but I grew up surrounded

Feels good seeing so many people feel the same way. I've been working on an algorithmic trading project for a few years now and at times there have been speedbumps where I ask myself what I'm doing when I could be getting a lot m

I follow what you're saying and completely agree, especially with the "look how superior we are that we are completely void of instinct.." quote - there are many things this could apply to nowadays in today's instant gra

Yeah this seems obvious to me. So many people have trained their minds to rely on their professional career to be happy. In my opinion there is nothing wrong with finding something you can stand, and then devoting yourself 100% elsewhere

I feel ya. It took me a couple years to get used to having kids, but there is a point where I realized (as a very selfish person) my life was no longer about me. The little amount of time I get to myself anymore I cherish, just as much as

I agree with you mostly, even though it's somewhat heartless and maybe too black and white. I'm from an area where this exact scenario is happening to a lot of home owners. There is a point where I think it's okay to factor

And now the vehicles you buy are tracking and selling your data. I worked as an SWE in research and development at one of the bigger manufacturers just a few years ago. The executive level rhetoric was "it's not the customer

You ask really good questions in your comment. Some of them I've pondered myself, and it is hard to put into words. Everything being more extreme here in the US is actually a decent way to put it. You can simply take a quick drive ju

Yup, this makes a lot of sense to me. I could even see models broken down by director/film. So many combinations could be used - the possibilities are endless. A Tarantino model like that of Pulp Fiction might be a good one.

You've made some really great points in all your comments thus far that I 100% agree with, especially with current politicians losing all economic sense. Even the once budget stubborn Republicans signed away. I have no citations, but

I was thinking the same. I get the whole Hacker News "being a contrarian just to be a contrarian" thing, but this specific thread has gone much further than I thought it would.

It's puzzling to me that you are getting downvoted instead of responses when it seems like your comment follows the whole progressive comment Hacker News thing... Or whatever it is they are going for this week.

Yup... Tears filled my eyes upon reading this one. I'm the dad of two little ones - we live in what I would call a mostly safe cul de sac, which is actually considered a Court given it has less than eight houses. The only nightmares I

What I understood from the parent's comment is not that they were equating curating a website and slavery, but more so equating the tactics used. There was more than likely a better example to be used so it couldn't be cherry pic

I feel ya here. My family has owned a couple nice parcels of rural property for years and I just kind of took it for granted. A few years ago I read The Overstory by Richard Powers and it really fired up my interest in nature and trees.
