Yes but they also have to do something about the shortage of affordable housing. Most EU capitals are quickly becoming unaffordable to the lower and middle classes and people will expect their governments to regulate short-term renting of r

It's interesting how long it took for the US to adopt them. I wonder why the coffee shop culture wasn't exported earlier. I wouldn't compare Starbucks to European style cafés though. It's sort of like the McDonald's

Yes, as far as I know the very first cafés in Europe opened in the 17th century in Vienna, Paris and London and then spread to Italy and the rest of the Austro-Hungarian empire over the following two centuries.

>I can remember a time (1980's and earlier) when the modern version of the coffee shop didn't exist. Are you talking about the US here? I'm pretty sure they've been around in Europe and the Middle East for centuries.

I often Google for trivial syntax when switching back and forth between programming languages. A quick reminder without having to leave the editor window would be great. Also, typos.

Thanks. I don't necessarily see it as being "fat-friendly", they're just trying to prevent discrimination. The "widening doorways" thing might be a bit too much unless the person in question actually has a medi

What do you mean? How can a city be "fat-friendly" by policy?

I see, thanks. It'd be interesting to have people take a lab test right before going on a keto diet and then repeating it at fixed intervals to see how it affects the results.

I'm guessing they're downvoting you because you mentioned studies but provided no links, so here's one I found[1]. [1] http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2892765/

My grandfather died at a similar age and he's been a smoker for decades. Doesn't make smoking any less harmful in my eyes.

Wouldn't adopting a balanced diet that's reasonably low in carbs plus some exercise achieve the desired effect but without fucking shit up in the process? I can't imagine going from a sedentary, high-carb, overweight lifestyl

I totally forgot about gas prices. Looks like some of these trucks can consume >15l/100km. I guess it only makes sense that we don't have them in Europe. Especially with recent emission regulations, downsizing, etc.

Whats the reason for the percentage of American brands being lower in the Bay Area, NYC, etc.? Do wealthy areas just prefer imports or is there more to it?

That could actually be an interesting linguistics problem. In spoken languages, "between" is usually inclusive unless context suggests otherwise. It can easily be a source of misunderstanding if the context clues are insufficient
