I do think that if there is a replacement to git in the future, it will probably have pull requests, tags, etc. built in that most git servers support but implement separately since they’re not in the standard. Alternatively, GitHub as a pl

Equating workers sharing ownership of a business and oppressive communist governments that sent people to gulags is a bit ridiculous. “Your business must be owned by a single rich person or a bunch of shareholders who aren’t workers themsel

I’m not stupid, of course I tried that first Essentially this doesn’t work because every email client I tried can’t handle the specific way my work email account does authorization and the login always fails. They also blocked POP/IMAP

The LLM world has been really good at bootstrapping models so I’m sure this will be used to create something exactly or more powerful than it without using any of its existing code.

I think it makes sense to appoint a CEO who can be dismissed or have their policies dismissed by a simple majority vote and who can be nominated and voted on by anyone during an election. That would help resolve disputes where different sec

I use Vivaldi (not chrome itself but another Chromium browser) because I want PWA support on my Linux machine so I can have an app for outlook with notifications and Chromium browsers make that far more convenient than Firefox.

They’re not, they want legal protections to stop companies from replacing them For example paying someone for a day, scanning them, and using their image forever in AI content is both legal and allowed under SAG guidelines. Even if you thin

I like the “open source will be enforced” nature of GPLv3 for that reason. Yes,it does mean that a developer some some huge company will have to write their own version of your project instead of just using yours and thus your code would be

Yep. In 2023 you cannot buy a copy of Mario Kart Wii and have the money go to the people who wrote, or even wrote the IP for the game anyways so it’s kind of a victimless crime. Obviously pirating a game you can still legally buy from the r

As someone in the second group the IDE is basically just doing the first thing efficiently for you when you do the second thing. Not a good or bad thing but I do think that that’s interesting to note

Odd example but the Nintendo 3DS/DS/Wii U are also good examples of string devices built out of plastic because they needed to both be extremely durable and relatively cheap. It’s completely doable if you make it a design goal

A lot of video uploaded to YouTube is stuff like “Dorothy’s first school play” or “Epic UFO sighting” or “Josh’s 5th birthday” that gets >1000 views, the stuff that you actually see when you browse YouTube as a viewer is in the minority

That would be great but it’s most likely not going to work that way- Meta will never let you use Mastodon to act as a threads client so any integration between the two will probably let people view mastodon from threads but not vice versa (

I think YouTube might be the exception to this because of how expensive video hosting is. Mastodon is actually doing a great job funding itself but it and Lemmy/Kbin are all text based protocols. The only other sites even close to YouT
