Sure, but that can be done with good layout and typography, or tasteful illustrations (à-la New Yorker). Simply using bad filler stock images is a really bad way to go about this.

Maybe they're using it as a filter for smart developers. There's a lot of shitty scripty developers out there, but if you can show you know C you're pretty much guaranteed to be at least decent. But then again, it might be written in C++; s

These hyperbolic articles about places that are "the best place in the world for a startup" need to stop. For a creative and smart founder, any place in the world will be a fine spot to start up, and might even be better than silicon valley

Fantastic read. It's really interesting to hear about how Y Combinator started much like a startup itself. Today we take YC for granted, but 7 years ago that concept must have been extremely novel and easily dismissed. It's hard for me to i

This article is ridiculous. I don't understand, either, why people are so afraid of dying… it's a normal part of life. For my part, if I have an accident, I don't care what criteria my death follows, I wouldn't want to live with a broken br

I hardly see this as an example of what's great about map/reduce or functional programming… It doesn't illustrate either the core concept of map/reduce, or that of functional programming. I think this is a better basic example (in clojure)

I'm not so sure it's all marketing. Apple is the most inflexible, arcane company imaginable when it comes to web software. They're still using a legacy technology (WebObjects w/ Java) that died many years ago, and everything I've heard abou

It'd be neat if the jobs could go to Californian robots, rather than Chinese ones. Remember when Jobs built a fully automated robotic assembly line in Fremont for the Next computer.

Starting a startup is like going to Vegas: you absolutely need to give yourself a limit before hand of how much you're willing to lose, stick to it, and go in expecting to lose it. If you have a family to feed and a mortgage to pay, you sho

Arguing that closures are great because they let you replace for loops is like saying the iPhone is great because it has a better texting interface than a Nokia 3310: it's entirely missing the point. What makes closures is that it opens up

For those who want real journalism, here is the original story: http://www.nytimes.com/2012/02/19/magazine/shopping-habits.h... It's much better than Forbes' click-bait re-packaging of it, by the way.
