I posted my solution on StackOverflow[1], but I like my way better than the top post: Here's how I'd do it (with the cursor on the first line): qama:5y$'a$p:5dd'ajq3@a You need to know two things: - The

You can be a "brogrammer" and be outraged at this all the same, you know… Your association of brogrammer == sexist is just as offensive and discriminatory as the attitude you accuse all brogrammers to have towards women.

Two questions: - How is GitHub worth less than Pintrest? - What could GitHub possibly gain from raising money? It's clearly not about money. Is this a liquidity event? Couldn't they just issue a dividend for that, they've clearly got plenty

So let me get this straight. Yahoo! is getting rid of the only successful asset it has left? Until right now, Yahoo! had two things going for it: its asian operations (Alibaba, Yahoo! Japan, etc.), and the Hadoop project. Now, it only has o

If you're burning out and are struggling, sometimes a break and some time to think things through without the pressure is the best thing you could do. You know how when you have a really tricky bug that's killing you, that you really want t

Yes, but that's a flag that our library's users would have to figure out how to add to their project. And if they forget to, it would create crashes at runtime. That's not a can of worm we were willing to open.

This situation is most commonly encountered on iOS, with ad networks and SBJson. As the developer behind one of the ad network SDKs included in countless iOS apps, I struggled finding a good solution to this problem. Spoiler: there isn't on

I know all about servers being under so much load that everything falls apart. Working at a nascent mobile ad network whose traffic doubles every month, and whose monthly number of requests amount to 10 figures, I know all about it. And yet

While I agree with the sentiment, I have two points: 1) The goal of a programming language is to be as unambiguous as possible. This is why we have syntax, and do not program in english. As soon as you use the same token identifier for two

That's true, but as long as either of those is true, I'm fine: 1) I have internet access to get to dropbox.com. 2) I have my iPhone handy. 1Password syncs to both of these over the air. So, bare a catastrophe, I should be fine.

I will be really sad to see it go. Perian is one of the first five things I download when I'm on a clean install of OS X. Support has sadly been lagging when it comes to MKV, and for that I still keep VideoLan around; but otherwise I love h

It's not that I'm fear-mongering against .NET / Mono. It's more that I find the idea of having to download, install, and maintain a 1GB proprietary runtime to run a CSS preprocessor, well, preposterous. Don't worry, I have the same repulsio

.NET / Mono dependency is somewhat of a dealbreaker here. .NET might be a fine technology to build an internal product on, like StackOvervlow, but for an open-source project it's a huge barrier to widespread adoption. Especially considering
