I have been thinking about this problem for a long time as well. But I think that focusing on nils is a wrong analysis. The problem is the default zero-values dogma, and that is not going to change anytime soon. Sometimes you also need a le

The satellites are equipped so that they can not only correct their orbit themselves, but also deorbit whenever SpaceX decides that it is their end of life, rather than just be abandoned.

Starlink satellites are designed to not cause this problem, and are on a low enough orbit that the problem would solve itself naturally in a few years anyway.

If I were to pay, it would more likely be directly to the creators (like Nebula and others). With YouTube I have zero confidence that the authors get a fair share, and the last thing I want is to give money to the parasites randomly claimin

The only time I tried wasm in Go, the wasm compiled by the native Go was so slow that the equivalent Javascript was faster. Tinygo produced decent performance however.

I had a similar dilemma a few years ago when I moved to another country. The round trip was about 1000€, but the one way trip about 5000€, which is just bullshit. I would bet that as for skiplaggers, many people just get the round trip and

I guess it's nice to have a standard, but I wish the Golang developers stopped introducing stuff like "args ...any" all over the place in the standard library. It's not the level of type-safety that I expect from a stron

Every time I see such an article that dismisses psychotherapy, I cringe a little bit. It is obvious that the author is ignorant of the topic (psychotherapy). It sounds like a hardware engineer dismissing software engineers and strongly affi

Got any references to this? I never had any smell, but lately I have very short episodes when I was surprised to smell something, until it disappears again. I didn't notice any specific pattern about when it happens either, it's j

I have no smell, but I do appreciate all kinds of foods and tastes. Mostly the only thing I noticed that I lack are spices. I have no idea what these are for, so I just blindly follow the recipes, hoping not to mess it too badly. That said,

My high-end thinkpad X1 carbon died after 2 years... Not repairable, and they don't sell any motherboard that could allow me to repair it myself. Also the CPU and RAM were soldered on it, which makes it even less repairable.
