Nice references! I have some criticism of "Toward an Integration of Deep Learning and Neuroscience" which I've talked to the authors about. I felt like they downplayed the importance of integration between neuroscience and ma

Found a paper! Yes, it is better. Maybe not for this specific application and given there's no pre-trained network available, I can totally understand the choice made. https://www.semanticscholar.org/paper/The-reco

I totally thought the state-of-the-art for OCR would be ConvNets, but apparently it isn't? Or are there just not any easily available/usable libraries that do OCR with Convents? Or is the benefit of ConvNets marginal enough to not

I wasn't totally convinced by the first linked essay. The primary arguments presented seem to be: - Government funded development only gives the government what it wants while the citizens remain unsatisfied. This is due to a lack of &

I'm not sure it's fair to compare the Brainstorm chip to the paper you linked to, since they take different inputs (binary vs. continuous) and they implement different systems (purely feed-forward vs. recurrent dynamic systems). B

As I mention in my comment [1], there are already a lot of designs that do work on very real world problems. Also, we've already started mapping CNNs onto the silicon for greater power efficiency. But you're right to say there
