Yeah this was a big one for me. TAing classes as an undergrad and then running classes as a grad student removed a lot of the anxiety. I still have some level of nerves, but it feels like it comes from a healthier place and isn’t crippling.

You say that as if that is always a top down transformation, and not the result of entrepreneurial founders losing motivation or leaving after a lockup period. Regardless of cultural differences or how the transition is handled, the fact th

This looks really exciting but I'm curious about the intended market. Is this a "level 5" vehicle in terms of autonomy? What sort of license would be involved for an owner and operator? Do you foresee people having these in s

Likewise. I am shocked by the lack of empathy expressed by many here and on SO. Pronouns may be a small thing for a cis person, but for others they are a way to reclaim an identity denied to them. To deny anyone that basic level of respect

Pretty sure the press release is from the end of 2018. The game is still in development and you can follow along with development updates on the subreddit. Can’t comment on the timeline but it’s making exciting progress and I can’t wait to

It varies quite a bit between studios and game. Some legacy games have C++ service backends. There is a lot of java throughout the org. I am currently working in node/typescript.

We used Orleans for our service framework for Breach, a 4v1 asymmetric action RPG built with Unreal Engine 4. While all the real-time simulation was implemented authoritatively as part of an Unreal Engine 4 server, we used Orleans/Sign

Lessons learned but that is pretty unbecoming. This isn't a hobby project or something that was released for free. It's definitely not representative of most studios in the video game industry.

Hard to know what is going on here. They claim that "all the code base got deleted from its server" where the server in this context is a deployment target, not a source control server. At any studio I've worked, and even on

Yeah I think so. I was shocked to discover that over a 1/3rd of the computer science classes I TA'd as a grad student were cheating, repeatedly, on homework assignments and tests. I had come from a culture as an undergrad (and gra

While there is still a disparity, it has decreased over time. The comp for senior engineers at the larger studios compares favorably with the broader technology sector, outside of a handful of companies.
