I think the most frustrating part is that people don't know what NAT they are behind. I wish WebRTC easily told people the attributes of their NAT. Not sure if it would help production deploys, but would make learning a lot easier. Som

Unrelated! (for now) WebRTC uses decades old protocols (RTP/RTCP) for media exchange and pre-dates QUIC. There is talk of using QUIC instead, but I have no idea how that is going!

Thank you :) Yes! There are three 'media servers' that I know of. You can also find more stuff in awesome-pion [2] * https://github.com/pion/ion * https://github.com/peer-calls/peer-calls

Hey HN! This is a little demo of WebRTC insertable streams. This API has the possibility of opening up some exciting with WebRTC. The gist of it is that you have access to the video frames in the browser now! You can see here [0] flipping b

Have you looked at SCTP over UDP at all? I use it for this and works great. https://docs.google.com/document/d/1RNHkx_VvKWyWg6Lr8SZ-saqs... actually compares them! If you don't care about initial startup time

Is your chat text only? I think for media WebRTC is going to always win in the browser (unless you have the developers who can implement custom congestion control etc..) For text only I still see a couple advantages * E2E Security. With Web

Thanks :) I am really passionate about this stuff. WebRTC is really great, but the community is kind of anemic. I am involved with a project Pion that is trying to bring more community ownership (instead of commercial) to the WebRTC space.

`setLocalDescription` is where all the logic happens! `createOffer`/`createAnswer` just creates an easy config to pass. You can change lots of undocumented stuff in the SDP! This list isn't exhaustive, but I have seen production a

https://github.com/saljam/webwormhole is another great one. * Native Client (in Go so you use pretty much everywhere) * Uses PAKE for E2E security. Even if the server is hostile they can't get anything.

These are the big points I see for servers, I am sure there are more though! * Less resource usage for users If you do mesh signaling every user connect with each other via P2P. This means if you have a 4 person conference call everyone nee

I wrote the Amazon offering! By design I implemented the same PeerConnection API, I really didn't want their to be vendor lock-in. I included a 'signaling client' in-tree, but you can do your own easily. The end goal is to ge

I do WebRTC on Edge/IoT devices (mostly MIPS/ARM devices running Linux). Customers are mostly teleoperations (robotics) and security cameras. Most customers run an MCU/SFU on a server, but then just a WebRTC client on the dev

This is a cool utility that someone contributed to Pion! I get lots of questions around why certain calls need TURN, or how P2P works in general. When you run it you will get output like sean@siobud:~/stun$ ./stun-nat-behaviou

It looks like RIPT[0] is people's answer to WebRTC's complexity. I personally like WebRTC. Maybe just Stockholm syndrome though :) I see everyone saying QUIC is the answer, but all the complexity scares me. I imagine in 5 years ev

Local IP leakage has been fixed! WebRTC uses mDNS candidates now, so there is nothing that shows your 'local IP' anymore. For 'Public IP' that sounds like a VPN configuration issue. Your WebRTC Agent should be routing th
