Tbh, this is most industries. Very few have much of a moat and have some wedge/pressure from their suppliers (land/labor/capital), their clients and competition. Insurance companies and PBMs would probably say the same they h

tbh, it probably works. I'm vibe-coding a thing and just told it to figure out why it runs so slow: put in some optimizations. It ran some tests and stopped loading an entire-something at opening because there's no value to doing

Hey now, I'm totally incompetent, so my code writes entries in a log file for virtually everything because otherwise I have no idea if it's doing what I expect. Would've caught some critical function not being called at all.

Conceivably, the funds could be sent to an address that they send to before. Very far from perfect... could work if it's a centralized exchange, one could deposit to the same address more than once (or maybe there's a time limit f

More likely the higher fees forces through the transaction faster. If it sits around waiting for a miner to pick it up, there's a chance the real owner or competitor could replace-by the transaction with a higher fee and redirect it. I

What makes it easier on 240v systems is that your entire household is on the same “circuit”. If you’re on a 120v system, there’s a ~50/50 chance that your load is on the wrong side (except for 240v loads where you’ll imbalance things a

At some crossover point, the reduced fuel carrying (and max capacity requirement) makes up for the additional takeoff+landing. When we're talking ultra-long-haul, constantly fighting against more gravity due to incr fuel weight adds up

It's basically the business model for some airlines like the Icelandic and middle eastern ones. Hub in the middle so you're not paying (potentially extra) staff to rest on an aircraft and/or hotels at each end. Be at home mor

Assuming you can regularly land with your fuel tanks half-full. You could overbuild everything to support that, but usually airlines don't want to pay for a niche design to support that. I'd bet military aircraft do get that treat

Also bad for fuel economy (and/or take a hit on cargo/pax/luggage carrying capacity): You have to take off with all that fuel even though you only need X / hr. Increased weight = more flying at a lower altitude (+ air re

A lot of plastics aren’t great at blocking/absorbing UV. And normal umbrellas, not being designed for UV, may lose a lot of their strength with heavy UV exposure from what they do absorb.

Heh, deepseek is known to randomly switch to Chinese output for no reason at all. As I was using Claude chat as a poor man’s reviewer, I just pasted it over and Claude interpreted it without skipping a beat and responded in English.

I’m surprised the concept of drivespace/double space died off. Maybe most files self-compress well from their native app, but I’m sure it’s not universal. OSs don’t seem to offer a prompt to compress relatively unused files and transpa
