I think it's all about the syntax and less about the semantics that still makes it a top 5 language. Makes you think about how important the syntax for a language is.

It's sad, dealing directly with extreme over-engineered enterprise Java libraries to compensate for Clojure's lack of ecosystem erodes all the attractiveness of the language for doing real-world or hobby applications. OTOH, there

For a tool like that I need it to be a frictionless as possible This is way so many just try to fit their the note/task/wiki/etc.. flows to their text editors(vscode, emacs, vim)

Can't beat better ecosystem, better integration with the ecosystem and let other company(Microsoft) do the work for you.

I will take a dynamic language over bad statically-typed languages any day, no matter how good the IDE is.

you then have to re-write the code if you want the application to scale. Scaling machines (VMs, containers) is a solved problem and very easy to do today.

I would say 2x-5x shorter is pretty realistic.

Having been using express again recently, I'm seriously thinking of ditching the asp.net core stack despite my general preference for statically typed languages. Why not typescript?

Refactoring tools do more harm than good and they exist to duct tape the complexity path some programming languages set you on by adding more complexity.

Agree with you in part that all professional programmers should be comfortable coding most things with out GC and not see it as obscure scary stuff but the in startup world there is no much "pays off in the long run" thinking, it&

Neither Rust/C++/RAII make coding without a GC pleasant, so they are not the answer. Maybe languages like Nim and Zig can help fill this gap when they are released.

What I got from all these posts was that F# and Scala are the only statically typed functional programming languages with an advance type system that have access to a big ecosystem.

No, the overhead will be in how to best map the F# to the C# code all the time while reading C# docs versus just not having this mental juggling in C#.

There's overhead in reading documentation, ex: all of asp.net core docs and examples are in C#.

Clojurescript creates lots of overhead on the runtime, I wouldn't recommend it for UIs that need to do more than very lightweight processing on the client and be really snappy. A 50k LoC codebase(as in Dark) in Clojurescript will be a

What about using F# just for the compiler and C# for the rest of the backend? That way, the friction of using libraries goes away, for example, using asp.NET core or other third party libs will be smoother. Though joggling between two langu

One of the selling points for Vim and Emacs is that they are pretty impressive at raw text editing, having "simple, intuitive" keybindings like nano seems to go against this goal?

If it is really a Firebase alternative, how does it manage live synchronization of data between users? or "cloud functions"? didn't find anything on the website.
