You can dim LEDs running on AC by converting to DC and then adjusting the current limit of the switching power supply. No flicker, but more expensive components.

200 Hz PWM on lighting is very noticeable.

You can also eliminate flicker by not using PWM, and instead using a high switching frequency DC power supply with a clean stable output current. Obviously it costs more, but I wish manufacturers would just do it.

If you read around their points, it sounds like they track general location, log group messages, and provide specific information on request to a government.

If you flip to the next month it shows the last 5 days or so of the last month as well.

Month view is the most useful for me since I can easily see what's coming up, and on what day by where it lies on the calendar grid. Agenga view is not as useful for me because it doesn't allow quickly scanning events and knowing

That's the only view I use. How on earth is it 'antiquated' lol

Does iOS even allow using a different SMS app? They're pretty locked down usually..

No ads on the original apps, but these do have privacy benefits, they also just don't have useless features like the AI stuff that keeps getting crammed into default apps.

It is fraud, but it would likely be difficult and expensive to legally go after the company in India.

I like using ublock origin since I can create filters for those popups.

Restic is nice. Backrest if you like a webUI.

It's accessing the router via the built in SSH server, so no malware needs to be installed on the router.

Yeah the article says the fix is just a factory reset or disabling SSH, so at least it's easy to solve this one.

It sounds like Asus screwed up and made the admin UI and SSH accessible via the WAN port, which is a huge issue in itself. Disabling the 'backdoor' seems to just involve disabling SSH.

Shared hosting with PHP is still incredibly common, and easy to use.

Ahh that makes sense, there's often not a lot of clear info out there on the variants.

Yeah I feel the same, even if you want to use Bitcoin as a currency it's prohibitive as the fees are worse than most fiat services. I think it was something like $0.70 in fees to transfer $3 a few days ago, and it took a full 30 minute

Oh that's a good idea. I'm not sure 25 aliases would be enough though, that price jump is quite a bit.

Ahh I see it on the footer of the website, a bit hidden! I'm not sure I really need it for personal use, more just a cool thing to see, so I'm a bit undecided on paying for the domain feature. I can see it being useful for a busin

I really wish I could put in my domain name, I have so many aliases that it's basically impossible to search each one individually.

That really looks like it's AI generated. Not a good look for a company claiming to make something!

Obsidian lets you pick any folder you want when setting up the notebook, so you could put it in any of your synced folders right? Or does the iOS version of Obsidian do things differently?

TBH that sounds like a better reason to get something other than Apple systems instead of changing all your apps to work around Apples bizarre limitations.

Syncthing is a lifesaver, it's such a useful tool! There are also several Obsidian community plugins for sync, I use Remotely Save via WebDAV.

It can do that just fine with the new permissions, you just can't sync the root folder or Downloads folder which is OK as documents, audiobooks, etc would be stored in their respective folders and not Downloads.

Nextcloud isn't really designed to sync the entire device, it's meant to sync your Nextcloud folder to a subfolder somewhere which works fine with the new storage access permissions.
