The keyboard + lack of monitor space reduces my productivity. Even on a laptop with a "large" (17"ish) screen and a decent full keyboard.

Because doing so is one of the many measures you can take to ensure your software is (and stays) easily maintainable. Getting your SW working is only really one stage of a product life cycle.

FWIW, when I used focus more on networking rather than development, I always used the numpad for typing in IP addresses. I found it was much faster to use it rather than moving horizontally across the number keys, but YMMV of course. Disc
