Exercises on http://www.4clojure.com seem like a much easier way to get your feet wet with Clojure. It's good when new users can try a language out right in their browsers, without having to install any additional software.

That was my thought initially too, but I guess that if the crossing was shining all the time, drivers would simply start ignoring it after a while. The fact that the crossing lights up when pedestrians are allowed to cross acts as a visual

I'm not sure what the point of this question is? Usually, if HNers have a project that they want to show to the world, they submit it as "Show HN"... But seeing as you're here for almost two years, I guess you already know that.

I'm no fan of Mensa, but there's one thing that I don't understand in this article - if the test was for non-English speakers and it contained pictures of animals, why was one of the possible answers that popped into the author's head "shee

Show HN should be where you show your cool personal projects and stuff like that, not a place where you advertise your company/product.

There are several projects that attempt to implement JVM in JavaScript. Doppio [1] seems to be the most mature one. So, we may yet see JVM-based languages in the browser (and without the need for a plug-in). [1] http://int3.github.com/dopp

He/she probably means that people are more likely to listen to Uncle Bob, since he's a well known consultant than to Scott Locklin, which is a shame because he really gives some good points.

Regarding 1)... Yes, in this particular case you could just throw an UnrecoverableError (or whatever) and pass a string with a message of what went wrong to its constructor. But that wasn't my point at all. I wasn't trying to make a point

I'm sorry, but your comment is really not much more than pointless, cynical Java bashing. Java has it's share of problems, and it's definitely not as modern (regarding language features) as some of the other languages today (although that s

What kills Clojure for small scripts and not-long-running applications is the startup time and that can mostly be attributed to JVM Did you not read the article? Quote: "What we can see is that Java itself accounts for 0.35s of the startu

No, of course not :). I was thinking more along the lines of a deaf-mute person being able to give a presentation or hold a lecture for people that do not understand sign language.

True, but it's probably a lot easier to build an IDE by concentrating on supporting one language, at least in the beginning, and thinking about support for other languages later on. Don't forget that this is not even an alpha version of Lig

I agree with you. There is a reason why classes in Java can only inherit implementations of methods from a single parent class. If we're going down this road, why not just allow multiple inheritance?
