This game was deeply important to me: it's the first time I remember explicitly recognizing different ideological and religious beliefs abstracted away from their particular human instantiations. I absolutely loved the different factio

But you do have full control, if you want it. Nothing stops you from altering plugins or making your own. The plugins sit in a local directory. Very easy to modify.

Same. I admit I've running into a few syncing headaches over the years, but given the cost of $0 and the fact it's open source, I recommend it too. I previously rolled my own notes system and I find Obsidian plus Syncthing is bett

If you use Obsidian there's a great plugin which allows me to make flashcards easily within my notes: https://www.stephenmwangi.com/obsidian-spaced-repetition/

A few uses for me: • Memorizing Geoguessr metas. Made it to Master I rank this way. • Memorizing new words. When I come across a word I don't know, I make a new flashcard for it. • Memorizing things about people. My wife's favorit

I always felt the derision around the term "prompt engineering" was partially due to people overestimating the importance of the initial prompt and underestimating the importance of managing the ongoing context. You develop a knac

Same. To people who regularly drink, I don't drink at all. When I was young, I would always get asked why. I'm pushing 40 now, and people rarely ask anymore.

The maps can contain "unofficial coverage," also known as trekker coverage. Lots of Geoguessrs hate those locations because we're lost without our roads :) Many map makers will only include official coverage. Geoguessr map ma

Search was irrelevant in this case. I ran it again without search and it made the same guesses. I updated the post with those details.

You've clearly thought this through, and I agree that had I been more precise at the start it would have avoided some confusion. I'm glad you like the updated post.

Yes, I re-ran those rounds and it made the same guesses without search, within 1km I believe. You're right about not having a map - I cannot imagine trying to line up the Ireland coast round without referencing the map.

I thought it might matter somewhat in that one Austria round. I was incorrect - I re-ran both rounds where the model used search, without search this time, and the results were nearly identical. I updated the post with the details. That

Absolutely! It happens occasionally - the most common example I can think of it getting a license plate or other location from a tractor-trailer (semi) on the highway. Those are very unreliable. You also sometimes get flags in the wrong cou

That's inaccurate. It beat me by 1,100 points, and given the chain of thought demonstrated that it knew the general region of both guesses before it employed search, it would likely have still beaten me in those rounds. Though probably
