It's not a strawman, it tends to be an issue if you work somewhere where the core business is not software and client managers are less used to dealing with software or saas products and make commitments based on what they are more use

I understood that, but question whether it's meaningful to say that is therefore more complex. Complexity theory just doesn't apply? (Or does it?)

Does it actually make sense to say that something that is non-computable is most complex? That seems like a contradiction.

It explains why, because it returns timetz which is only kept for compatibility with the SQL specification but is a bad way to store time.

Somewhat related: I turned off youtube watch history. I can no longer see my google play music played counts, because somehow the same permission covers both, even though I would like music history but not youtube history.

It's almost like the D in DLL stands for something. That said, it's not strictly static linking but it is closer to it in effect than the global assembly cache or the shared DLLs which resulted in the kind of "DLL hell"

From the news guidlines: > Off-Topic: Most stories about politics, or crime, or sports, unless they're evidence of some interesting new phenomenon. I'd like to hear you out if feel this is a new or interesting phenomenon.

Yes, the US has a messed up healthcare system. It's terrible, but it's not something that tech can fix. It's a political problem, so this is politics and is disappointing to see politics at top of HN.

The asymmetry of three things is essentially what secures of a lot of cryptography: 1. multiplying two large prime numbers together (easy) 2. Factoring the result without knowledge of those primes (extremely difficult) 3. Factoring

This sounds like it would be illegal in Europe because it falls foul of "automated decision making". Article 22 of the GDPR: > The data subject shall have the right not to be subject to a decision based solely on automated pro

Possibly stupid question: If only a few bits of nonce are needed to recover the key, what's preventing iteration of all possible values of those "few bits"?

Jetbrains' refactoring tools have always been top tier. For years resharper was absolutely essential for C# development because visual studio just lacked good refactoring. VS has been catching up and has mostly caught up in recent edit

It doesn't take advantage in the way you say because you get paid along the same lines. If you bet an accumulator with 2 selections at evens, you get paid at 3/1. (4.0 decimal odds) so that is "fair". It's profitabl

Credit cards aren't really used for age verification purposes in the UK so I'm not sure why it would be accepted for this. Also, "All adults own a credit card" is far from a good assumption in general and credit card own

This seems to be an error by submitter rather than the BBC too unless the BBC have changed their title. (Technically you can get into pedantry and point out that a top level domain is by definition a domain, but that's just not how peo

The government rules-lawyed it to be different by moving only the WA part rather than the WA+PD which it previously insisted had to be voted on together.

It's not a "meaningful vote" as defined by section 13(4) of the Withdrawl Act but it's effectively the same thing. It's a meaningful vote from the perspective of the EU becuase they don't care about the PD anyw

Sadly we'll never be able to rejoin with the amazing deal we have now, with our rebate and opt-outs intact. And no matter the outcome, we've lost our dignity. We'll never get back our reputation for stability.

Yeah in the UK it's not particularly common for developers to use a mac from what I've seen. That might be because generally C#/.Net is the main choice of enterprise which was traditionally all windows.

This article doesn't seem fully thought through. Firstly, if the tracking was good, amazon should know if an item was returned. It seems unlikely you'd keep a fridge you don't want and then buy another from the same supplier.
