I think the counter argument to that argument was always "can we actually do that as humans?" The push towards diversity is a straight forward reaction in an attempt to prove "yes we can" by moving the numbers as much as

As someone who actually lives in Africa, Larry Page is spot on. The only people who think charities are good for anything are the ones that have no contact with them - they are a black hole of good intentions that simply do not accomplish a

There's a big difference between listing Rails (a new technology -even rails 1 is a new technology- that is currently widely used), and listing COBOL. Don't even bother listing cobol/perl/whatever unless the company you

The real issue is a guy who has been programming for 3 years is trying to compare himself to people who have programmed for 30. Practice makes perfect - if you've only been coding for 3 years, I can almost guarantee that you don't

If they price this to compete with typical mid-high watches, then you're looking at about $4000 [1] which is more than enough to get some very impressive display technology in there. If they skimp and try to put in cheap hardware and g

Oh, no I have no problem with enterprise Java - it was merely an observation. Enterprise Java exists because it works, after all. I just find it interesting that most software projects will eventually come to the same conclusions regardless

Wouldn't it have been better to just stick a specialized piece of hardware/fpga to read directly from the crystal, buffer it, and pass it on? In fact that's what the timing equipment usually does for you. There's no reas

In the case of Java, there is a lot of inefficiency in the standard hash table in the form of Entry<T, K> objects for making it a bit nicer to use. There is also a lot of extra state stored for some of the extra features offered. Ever

Plus you're just testing the standard library implementations. If the hash lookup was the major focus for your program, you would be using a specialized hash map implementation. eg, http://trove.starlight-systems.com/

Honestly this is not a bad idea. Since bringing up a new instance VM will always be in exactly the same state, the shell script is completely deterministic. If any line fails to run, you could simply log an error and automatically shut down
