I feel OK with my list of achievements. I will now try to get more of them through carefully constructed commits.

it did (or does). Sun did the same thing - nice discount for sun if they pay within 7 days, so everyone raised rates by that much. It was nice getting paid so quickly

the very simple algorithm we used for Streets & Trips to start was "get to an interstate on both ends, then route the middle bit" with a bias towards staying on larger roads longer. as it turns out you don't get optimal r

I've worked with people that have made this claim (to have had surgery). Why would they lie? As another commenter adds, this was disclosed in spirited discussion off hours, when barriers are down.

I went through this in 2006 or so - SDETs were turned into SDEs overnight in my part of MSN. Some survived, I didn't - one thing it did was completely discount the skills of a tester. The other SDEs were not expected to be up-to-skill

I got stickers and a certificate of moderate appreciation from reddit itself for moderating /r/answers. You should know I'm totally beholden to corporate interests now - those stickers were very nice.

there was a member of Microsoft Pilots that did exactly that. Faked a crash on land as prep, crashed in Elliot Bay and swam to the house of his ex and "stole" a car in an attempt and insurance fraud.

I worked on the camera/3d bit, and I can say with good certainty parts of the UI were stubbed out only for integration purposes. When a feature was good enough to dogfood, it was in the builds all the testers got.

Agreed. San Francisco is the filthiest city I've ever worked in. That the residents appear A-OK with public activity that would at least warrant a visit by social services or the cops in other cities amuses and amazes.

Excellent. Metric Create Space in Seattle has a nice one of Seattle on the wall when you come in; looking for a picture of it I see they were making another recently. https://www.flickr.com/photos/metrixcreate/1505

I don't remember the price of the TBM itself, but it was going to be about $300,000 to put in the tunnel. That includes purchase and resale of the TBM. Prices for used TBMs seem to be mostly measured in meters drilled, so if you'r

Office 2013 apps are incredibly slow to start and run. Outlook, in particular, will lock up for minutes at a time with no network or CPU activity. Some people in my office use OWA instead of Outlook to get around the lockups.

I looked into buying a used 24" TBM, turns out it's quite affordable to buy one, use it for a project, and sell it. It can be much cheaper than trenching. Project didn't move forward. Pity.
