Yes. While it seems to be the trend to bash on PHP there's nothing wrong with discussing it's shortcomings in a constructive manner.

I think b99 was a QA version, for a last call for bugs before the RC.

Became compatible with b99 yesterday, so if it's incompatible again it should be fixed fairly quickly.

Funny how it partially confuses Pascal with the real thing, but still records its influences.

There's plenty of open-source ones, Witty ( http://code.google.com/p/wittytwitter/ ) for example, its just that TweetDeck is continously marketed as "the popular client".

I quite like this idea, although the way its been squashed in the second one isn't as good. An unsquashed version of #2 would look good imo.

Is there a way to trigger Firefox to install an update the traditional way (as in with a user dialogue)? If this is the only way possible to install an extension (without asking the user to visit addons.moz.org for example) then it's Mozill

I use Highrise (free version) for task management, although since that's all I use it for I'm working towards shifting those to Google Mail/Calendar Tasks. I do however like the fact you can get some of the task/reminder feeds in Backpack a

I think that OpenID is too confusing, until presented well to the user. I'd include a short piece of text on yuor registration/login page about OpenID - and make it clear to the user that they probably already use an OpenID-enabled service

Interesting technique, but it does use JavaScript (but degrades nicely). A couple of side-effects: Firefox 3.0.8 is pretty sluggish when scrolling (although it might be better with only one instance of this used), also you can't (visibly) s

Something I just noticed. I much prefer this over Twitter Search's implementation as it doesn't require you to refresh - it can just fetch the new data. Although I'd still prefer a check, load, highlight sequence but done automatically.

Interesting idea, I think most of them allow at least some versioning - whether it's accessible by the user is another story. My thought would be to store some meta-data on devices about the current version of the file, and just check the r

Each year I end up in a panic state trying to remember if Mother's Day has come yet because someone posts something like this (or worse, a small reminder on a blog post) without saying "in the U.S".

I think it's worth giving the student some credit for not adding something embarrassing: While he was wary about the ethical implications of using someone’s death as a social experiment, he had carefully generated the quote so as not to di

I can agree with that, the site does look like it's still in the 90s. It's a shame there isn't anything much similar (searching GitHub can turn up some gems though). It's an idea I toyed with once.

I agree with this statement. I've reached a stage where I could code a PHP-based website much quicker that in other languages. Admittedly it's what I started programming on (and has taught me a few bad things, but certainly kept my interest

I've no idea why this was downvoted, but ok. Perhaps pg can review logs to check whether it's someone targeting you (sounds unlikely) or a bug then. Edit: above comment was -1 before I upvoted.

Yahoo's homepage has always been of the portal style. When I see people's homepages (friends, family) they're never Google but some sort of portal (whether it's a social news aggregator (Digg, reddit), an actual news network or one of the '

In my opinion just adding subdomains to the source bar would be enough. Another common one is code.google.com coming up as google.com.

Like weaksauce suggested, some sort of auto-detection (although build an override too) would be a good start. A simple addition would be to make links clickable. You could look into overlaying tweets onto a Google/Live Earth map (although t

I've been moving towards using aggregators, such as HN and reddit, as my RSS readers. I found myself not reading half the items in my blogs, and then finding the items I was reading in the HN/reddit feeds. I now only have a few blogs (tha

I last read about 100 un(?)confirmed cases for the US but I still agree with this. It's a novel idea, and certainly a topical one, but does nothing to help the scaremongering dealt out by the media.

I had a similar issue - I forgot I'd registered with an OpenID and thus when attempting to login couldn't figure out why it would fail, even when using the correct case.

If the university offers to give you licenses for this software then fair enough - this is one way to rule out compatibility issues for the IT department. Surprised that they check if the software is legal however, what happens in the case
