I think that Android needs it to go a bit further by differentiating between required permissions and optional ones. Having them all optional could cause the app to plain not work (no, Handcent can't send messages) or users would just block

It was more a jab at the state of the comments than anything else, I have nothing against charging for products. It's interesting to note that increasing your price has increased the sensibility of your customers though, I had always put it

I'm going to agree with this because I've seen the comments on Notch's (Minecraft dev) blog. Commenting has been turned off now but they ranged from praise to demands for features and fixes to outright rage that they're not being listened t

>No offense, but this is like programming 101. It might be if you grew up in a C/C++ environment, many people these days start with scripting languages and don't venture out (myself included, but learning C is my new year's resolution).

What do you mean "see the software", the screenshots or the listings? This just seems like a web-based version of the software center, which isn't a bad thing but I don't really see myself using it.

I don't see why you're being downvoted, your comment is obviously sarcastic.

Hah, excellent. I never even applied for membership as I didn't have any examples of what I have done online but always assumed this would be a somewhat stricter than "I made this in Photoshop". Not as excited about applying now.

reddit's user's reaction to this is why I am progressively trying to move away from the community. It's turning into a hive-mind that can sometimes be benevolent but as soon as you piss them off they appear to emulate Anonymous.

This occurs far too often in my view and it's always coined on "exchange rates". I'm not sure what sort of optimisations they could make other than being preloaded with T-Mobiles network settings since it is supposed to be the pure experien

I find it a bit odd that all of them bar a couple like Papyrus come out as Times New Roman on Windows. Even Trebuchet MS which is supposed to be an MS font.

Mm, when it comes to "minimal UI" I just want as much screen space for the page as possible. At the moment Firefox's tabs don't overlap with the title bar and I was surprised how much this annoys me - Chrome has spoiled me. After using it f

The new Opera beta does nicely here, just some layout problems (scrollbars) if cursors go too far to the side on large monitors - awesome example though.

I've been wanting to move away from Chrome for a while (too many issues in too short a space of time). Opera looks to be the near-bleeding-edge browser I actually want. Minimal UI, draft standards support, efficient and still finds time to

In my opinion, if you're creating software that's living inside someone else's software it's easier for users (and to some extent it's polite) if you follow the parent software's approaches and style.

A few of PHP's most (publicly) hated components are being removed in 5.4 (which may become 6, from what I can tell this article is lying when it says 5.4 is "around the corner") - register_globals, magic_quotes is being discussed. Even the

I feel that since there are comments, answering a question should automatically upvote it. It depends on what the criteria for upvoting a question is - whether it's "not spam/trash or poorly worded" then this would work, I feel most people

I have a Dell Studio 15 (laptop) and while it's a fairly nice build I'd have to say stay away from Dell if you want to run Linux - when I started using Ubuntu (around 8.04) I had so many driver issues it was silly. 10.04 hasn't been bad tho

Agreed, if anything I think submitting a pre-existing story should actually be worth more score than upvoting it. The problem lies if people give out submit links pre-loaded with the submission URL/title (if that's possible?).
