I'd hope so since M3 Ultra is using a newer/more efficient manufacturing process than Strix Halo!

The M3 Ultra also consumes a lot more power because Strix Halo is actually a chip for laptops. The Framework here is a desktop but that doesn't change what AMD prioritized when building this chip.

You'll want to look at benchmarks rather than the theoretical maximum bandwidth available to the system. Apple has been using bandwidth as a marketing point but you're not always able to use that bandwidth amount depending on your

That's not really a Node problem but a JavaScript problem. Nothing about it was built to support parallel execution like Go and other languages. That's why they use web workers, separate processes, etc. to make use of more than a

You can buy Steam games and download them to your PC from your phone, too. Only problem is the website isn't designed specifically for mobile. Most pages work well but use a lot of data to pull media.

I agree. It's not practical to expect apps/games to be maintained forever. People stop working on things. Studios shut down. It's another reason why I think macOS wouldn't work out as a good games platform.

Nintendo does have their own emulators but only for a subset of games. Everything else is third party. Apple probably doesn't try to prevent iOS apps from being emulated but the fact that it's a fast moving target makes it much le

The M1 Max's GPU can only make use of about 90GB/s out of the 400GB/s they advertise/support. If the AMD chip can make better use of its 200GB/s then, as you say, it will manage to have better LLM tokens per second.

It's a pretty sad trap to fall into. All of these games are doomed to fall out of support and never be played again if nobody maintains them. Consoles have emulators and PC games usually just keep working but what is the solution for t

You're comparing theoretical maximum memory bandwidth. It's not enough to only look at memory bandwidth because you're a lot more likely to be compute limited when you have a lot of memory bandwidth available. For example, M1

I don't know how it works for C++ but you're not locked down to a single implementation with how C# does it. You can have it use different executors/schedulers, different task types, etc.

And all of the Apple Silicon Macs have them soldered on or use a proprietary module. They make way too much from storage upgrades to include an M.2 slot.

Apple's M-series of chips make use of more than two memory channels. I don't think there is evidence that it is actually beneficial for anything but marketing though.

Many of the more sophisticated video game cheats (not anti-cheats) run at the kernel level or lower (hypervisor, or even external hardware). So yes, I would say you are being too optimistic.

A modified Source 2 is kind of available right now with S&box. It uses C# with the latest .NET, no Mono. Not open source but licensing should be better than Unity. https://store.steampowered.com/app/590830/sbox

Not really. It's easy to abort after exceeding a number of uncompressed bytes or files written. The problem is the typical software for handling these files does not implement restrictions to prevent this.

Lua would definitely help with iteration times vs. C/C++/Rust but C# compiles very quickly. Especially in Unity where you have an editor that keeps assets cached and can hot reload code changes (with a plugin). Coroutines can defi

This is a mostly Unity-specific issue. Unity unfortunately has a potato for a GC. This is not even an exaggeration - it uses Boehm GC. Unity does not support Mono's better GC (SGen). .NET has an even better GC (and JIT) that Unity can&

Of course - but that is the best case scenario. You will need to support other kinds of queries as well, including writes, which is where it gets even more complicated. The guarantees provided by your RDBMS go away when you shard your datab
