For any doubters: using a 2025 model is a key detail here. It's the latest hardware version of the self driving computer. The older cars on the road are stuck with significantly worse FSD software because the hardware is far too weak.

It will also increase power consumption because your CPU has to do more work to run the same code.

For sure, but scaling vertically to that extreme is also unnecessary for the vast majority of systems. You can still have over a hundred cores without needing NUMA. And most systems will never even need that much.

It is a lot worse now. They're a bit lower on AliExpress but you need to shop around a bit and check similar SoCs. Here's an Intel N95 with 16GB RAM on Amazon for $297 right now: https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B0FZS

While I think the tech is cool, and I'm sure it is fast, the fact that the benchmarks make assumptions about your stack doesn't sit right with me. They even admit that it is the main contributor to its speed: > The most signifi

Could also get ESP32 instead of Arduino. Just as cheap, way more powerful, and has WiFi+BT included. Even more reasons to not get a RPi.

It's less weird when you understand that the SoC it uses was built for use in smartphones. The Ethernet port on equivalent Raspberry Pi (non-Zero) models is actually just a USB adapter. Built-in Ethernet support only comes with the Ras

Statistically, sure, but it's not evenly distributed across regions and cultures. People can find themselves in social circles where iMessage is the norm and be pressured into using it because others are unwilling to install a second m

That's not what's hard to understand. It's choosing to exclusively use iMessage knowing that not everyone can use it. And then shifting your social circle based on one company's decision to not support it on other platfo

RCS messages still show as green bubbles. I'm sure kids will still be bullied for it even if group chats didn't degrade. All of these problems could be avoided if iMessage was cross-platform or if people just used something else.

Green bubbles, WhatsApp, Signal, etc. are not an option for a lot of people. I don't get it either.

Switching away from Python would not fix this. EVE Online runs its world without instancing or shards, meaning you cannot scale out the simulation when a single zone is overcrowded. Pretty much every other online game avoids this problem by

They already have the ability to prevent alternative operating systems. They use the same or similar SoCs in their other product lines and those do not let you do this. Yes, Apple put effort into making it possible to install alternative op

Why do you still need an explicit install step if everything is correctly sandboxed? If your only answer is you don't trust the sandbox then you shouldn't trust the one provided by the OS, either. Your browser's sandbox is te

Is it really though? On a Tesla you have both the electronic button and manual door release from every door on the inside. You wouldn't need those manual releases if the doors weren't electronic.

What is the practical difference if the OS provides your general-purpose sandboxed runtime instead of the browser? The browser is already a product being developed by the same organization as the OS for a significant chunk of people. iOS -&

There's absolutely nothing complex about the layout in that Cubase screenshot. It's likely mostly (if not fully) manually positioned which you can do with CSS. The rendering is more complex because a lot of it would need to be

The people saying CSS is unfit for UI have probably never actually built a good UI in anything, and also realistically don't even know how to use CSS. Flexbox on its own is a simple and very capable algorithm that you can use anywhere.

Everything being an optional extension is covered by the article. It's bad enough for OpenGL and Vulkan but to burn that into silicon and not have a reliable way to detect them is way worse!

Most of your comment incorrectly assumes that you need a separate server for WebSocket but you don't. That HTTP request to upgrade the connection to WebSocket can go to your webserver which likely already has support built in to handle
