You can also have enough bandwidth but be compute limited and get lower performance than expected. This is more likely to be the case for Apple Silicon vs. high power GPUs.

But is that because of JIT compilation or other decisions for how the language should work (dynamic typing, GC, etc.)?

You can definitely get cheaper Android phones than an iPhone. There will be compromises but it will be cheaper. Many people are fine with a $200 or less phone.

You can actually opt-in to native compilation on a function level so it's not just a bytecode interpreter. You can also compile it yourself with additional functionality written in C/C++ and just use Python for the glue that isn&#

It's not that it's a problem I just don't think it's the best place to be. It was not designed to be used like this. Yes, it's better now but it's still not great - you still ship JS as text blobs that need to

Wait until you hear that almost all Unity games don't really have asset streaming because the engine loads things eagerly by default. I don't see how this could take off. Internet speeds are getting quicker, disk space is getting

Open web standards are great but consider where we could have been if competition drove them a different way? We're still stuck with JavaScript today (wasm still needs it). Layout/styling is caught up now but where would we be if

Or you just need a Steam controller. They're discontinued now but work well as a mouse+keyboard for desktop usage. It got squished into the Steam Deck so hopefully there's a new version in the future.

I disagree. Yes, it's less time vs. C but still a long time. There are plenty of games built with Lua that run very well such as Balatro and Don't Starve. And games are far more sensitive to hitches than GUI projects because they

According to general benchmarks Apple Silicon is the highest performing CPU for single-threaded work. It'll be hard to confirm how much of a difference the OS factors in but the hardware difference is most likely why.

New applications using LuaJIT will continue to be on Lua 5.1. And applications that do upgrade their dependencies but use LuaJIT are going to be stuck on 5.1 maybe forever, too.

.NET was already incompatible with WASM GC from the start [1]. The changes in .NET 10 are nothing in comparison to those. AFAIK WASM GC was designed with only JavaScript in mind so that's what everyone is stuck with. [1] https:/&

It'll be interesting to see the effect ads have on their trustworthiness. There's potential for it to end up worse than Google because sponsored content can blend in better and possibly not be reliably disclosed.

If they didn't force restart then the patches they release for vulnerabilities would never take effect. What normal user restarts their PC other than when they're having issues?
