Seconded - I just made a gushing sound that made my girlfriend think I saw a puppy online or something. I may need help.

Is this real, or a joke? Seriously, I've been through the guidelines and faq, and there is no discussion about forbidden words and language, but this is not the first time I've seen a comment about forbidden words. It is not clear

Well, this is a book written by MIT professors in support of an MIT course. Students will be concurrently taking classes in these other subjects. Which makes it a great undergrad text for an engineering school, and probably pretty tough if

I would suggest most of us are engineers, not scientists. And, on that note, I would say that learning to build robust systems is important. I split my time between CS and EE at college, and in many ways the EE stuff was more useful because

What I learned at college: physics, chemistry, optics, lots of heavy duty math - statistics, calculus, linear algebra, numeric computing, electrical engineering (analog and digital), how to write and publish, accounting, algorithms, a bit o

I've seen some of his stuff. I am reacting to a talk where all he says is "this is wrong". I've written about some of that stuff in other posts here, so I won't duplicate it. He by and large argues to throw math awa

Thanks for the link. I have the exact opposite reaction to the video. He is solving toy problems with toy ideas. I think his page Kill Math ( http://worrydream.com/KillMath/ ) illuminates this point. I don't think h

Can you elaborate. I see the structure, in the indenting. My IDE (Visual Studio) has little lines and + boxes that allow me to collapse and expand code like this. It's useless, because the most part I kind of care what "something&

Yes, sometimes. In another talk Bret claims that you basically cannot do visual art/design without immediate feedback. I was wondering how he thought people that create metal sculptures via welding, or carve marble, possibly work. It&#

It still is. Consider, not just PC based browsers, but the one on your phone. Every JIT compile costs watts, not just time. There's a relatively large push to go back to C++ because of this (power usage). 20% reduced performance may no

All I can say is, have you tried to use a CASE tool to do actual coding? I have, forced on me by various MIL-STD compliant projects. X and Y both talk to A and B. Represent that in 2D without crossing lines. Okay, you can, sure. If X and Y
