God damn it, everything you write on here is so valuable and good. You are making the rest of us look bad. Stop it! ;) I've heard it explained that the scrum thing was a way to start the journey. If you are in developer chaos, or utter

Okay, here is an idea. The Julia people are complaining that their language is great but it is not being picked up because their standard libraries are missing a ton of functionality. Start knocking out some standard library functionality.

Why does that matter? Your question isn't very good if you are selecting for people that know your question vs are smart/skilled.

Yes, I used that TRS-80 model while haunting the stacks at the Library of Congress in the 80s. A lot of people would ask me about it. It was great for basic text entry, and made life so much easier. It was a fantastic tool for the time.

"move fast, break things" is not a viable approach to aircraft design. Lead times on hardware is years. That helmet - how long would it take you to make one? You can't just tell that team don't sweat it, we are going to

Okay, extrapolate this to a weapons system. You can't expect a company to come up with their own version of the F-35 (which is extremely advanced) with the hope that, if you are satisfied, you'll buy 100 or so. If the government

Tonight when I drove by the substation that was shot at back in 2013 I saw it was surrounded with some kind of concrete walls; I go by every day and this was the first time I noticed it. It looked like a somewhat ad hoc set up, though I ad

Do you have any evidence for this? We pretty much get Gaussian distributions whenever we try to measure inherent skills. I happily stipulate the measures are difficult and flawed, but still, Gaussian distributions with a large variance is j

I agree. It is a handy catch phrase that describes a real phenomenon. I tend to think in terms of variance. Programmer A is 3 standard deviations 'better' than programmer B (again, no mathematical rigor implied!!!). Think of it in
