I don’t remember any more. We fixed it a few days later, but it didn’t cause much trouble so it was largely forgotten.

I remember having to go into work at 4:00 AM to replace the shift that spent the night in the operations support center. Fortunately, the guys that spent the previous year sweating the details got it right. We had one system that printed y

I have an electric powered flying wing I used to do this one windy day a few years ago. No bungee or other setup. Just toss it over the hill. Under-the-wing video: https://youtu.be/dFeZB1qpMk8

Definitely not in “park flyer” category any more. Carbon fiber decapitating blades of death if you get too close. HHOS.

I have never worked in the game industry but I love your comment “you can’t unit test fun”. There is definitely value in having both automated testing for repetitive stuff, AND, humans touching stuff to spot unspecified insanity.

Is 5 seconds an initial load, or every time the user clicks a button or menu item? Business to business app, or sales site? YMMV. 5 seconds could be intolerable, or a big improvement.

Hmm. There is a lot of difference between a sales brochure site, and a business to business site / app, with things in between. If you are running a marketing or sales oriented site, you want to minimize friction. It sounds like you a

The “payload “ of this article might be the line that attributes the so called crash to a trade war that damaged free trade. Some partisans consider free trade to be sacred, others, evil. Disclosure: I lean more towards “free trade is evi

Sadly, my 2011 MacBook Pro won’t update to these later versions, so I just have to leave it running for months at a time. Perhaps when the keyboard fails, someday, I’ll replace it, instead of just upgrading the RAM and drive. Kidding aside,

Also, by “hire people”, I mean directly, for a living wage, NOT outsourcing to billionaires who skim most of the money off the top and pay out minimum wage to a bunch of part time giggers.

How do you start a business for a product for which there is no demand? Not as in “didn’t know I wanted it” but as in “can’t pay for it “. That said, I’m not a fan of UBI. Yes, do tax the hell out of people who made fortunes from their in

I guess it depends. I guess I’m somewhat used to the asynchronous I/O model that things like Win16 and JavaScript use. You have to think a bit more about the unpredictable order that things happen in, but not about preemption race con

Interesting. That’s a different world from the business, or development tool, projects I have ever worked on. Never worked on any real time stuff. Looks like they are very big on using a flat finite state machine model. At least at Saab.

Yeah, pg_cron, then. Updating a materialized view feels like a data integrity issue which should be addressed within the DB itself, if not the DDL for the view itself.
